Yesterday, eight of us gathered to play Bridge. (A ninth,
zandev, who had come along to provide transport - and, it turned out, to constantly open doors for Reeve - read a book on the sofa).
The partnerships were:
-
the_alchemist and
borusa
-
lanfykins and
glittertigger
-
verlaine and
telpher
-
bateleur and myself.
We played Duplicate. We managed - I think - it was four rounds of eight boards. We swapped teams half-way through, although we didn't manage the third and final pairings. Scoring was Imps and the overall winners were
lanfykins and
glittertigger.
It was the first time I'd played in ages and I was very rusty. However, by the end I was starting to keep better track of cards and even paid passing attention to discards. Hands varied quite a bit - I ended up playing defense more than usual and had fewer 3NT contracts than usual. There were also a couple of moments when we realised that two of the hands didn't have thirteen cards (the first was when the dummy went down, but the second was before bidding had started).
Overall it was an enjoyable day and it was really good to play again.
