Bridge

Yesterday, eight of us gathered to play Bridge. (A ninth, [livejournal.com profile] zandev, who had come along to provide transport - and, it turned out, to constantly open doors for Reeve - read a book on the sofa).

The partnerships were:
- [livejournal.com profile] the_alchemist and [livejournal.com profile] borusa
- [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins and [livejournal.com profile] glittertigger
- [livejournal.com profile] verlaine and [livejournal.com profile] telpher
- [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and myself.

We played Duplicate. We managed - I think - it was four rounds of eight boards. We swapped teams half-way through, although we didn't manage the third and final pairings. Scoring was Imps and the overall winners were [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins and [livejournal.com profile] glittertigger.

It was the first time I'd played in ages and I was very rusty. However, by the end I was starting to keep better track of cards and even paid passing attention to discards. Hands varied quite a bit - I ended up playing defense more than usual and had fewer 3NT contracts than usual. There were also a couple of moments when we realised that two of the hands didn't have thirteen cards (the first was when the dummy went down, but the second was before bidding had started).

Overall it was an enjoyable day and it was really good to play again.

[livejournal.com profile] glittertigger and [livejournal.com profile] zandev came over. We played Small World (which Bea was very happy to win) and lots of Bridge. We also ate food, drank wine and discussed life.

Last Friday, my cold still much in evidence, I started to feel sick. As the day went on, this feeling became stronger. By evening I was sitting on the bathroom floor next to the toilet feeling very sorry for myself. Actually throwing up was a real relief. By the following morning I was feeling much better and by lunchtime I was eating again. Sadly, the cold is still around.

Today, I'm cleaning sick off the lounge carpet. Yes, Beatrice - poor thing - has caught my bug. She was in tears when I got to her; partly because it was an upsetting experience and partly because she thought she'd done a Bad Thing. She's now tucked up in bed with Lion (he's Ryan's, but this isn't the time to say so!).

The weekend was a good one. Mostly because of [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins and [livejournal.com profile] verlaine who came over to play Bridge and put up with [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I being dealt all the points (already mentioned here and here). There was also Butterscotch and Cherry - both fine things. And as for this week... it's got a Pancake Day! Plus it's the start of the Birthday Season.

[livejournal.com profile] frax and [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin came over on Saturday to play Bridge and Articulate.

Weak No Trump and geography problems )

Then on Sunday I did a bit of Diablo, a bit of writing and [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I finished The Watchmaker.

The Watchmaker - trying to avoid spoilers )

Now, onto my Monday. Ironing, babying and hopefully a 'Blue Cow' story during the Storytellers on CBeebies. Having watched the Blue-Cow-isn't-Rapunzel episode, I want to see more.

Saturday morning saw [livejournal.com profile] frax and [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin arrive for some Bridge.

The following morning, the Athory players arrived, surprisingly punctual, for Swordsmaster.

Back in the worlds of Stark and Arcadia, The Longest Journey continues. When I finally complete it, I will write up a review of the game.

Well, both [livejournal.com profile] nevecat and [livejournal.com profile] bateleur have written up timely accounts of Thursday evening, so I'll stick with saying that I enjoyed it. As did Ryan and Bea (someone new to play with !).

Friday brought Frances for pizza and garlic bread. We compared planned holidays and discussed Fallen Star.

Gratuitous Fallen Star stuff )

Saturday was bridge with [livejournal.com profile] bateleur, [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen and Bella (who used to work for me). Again my tardiness with Live Journal means that the other two have written up accounts to which I have little to add. I really enjoyed it, though it brought back to me (with full force) how naff low-point hands can be whilst playing rubber bridge. I also drank too much nice white wine (the bottle has disappeared, so I no longer know what sort it was) and not enough nice vanilla coffee (from Hawaii). Both were brought by [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen.

Sunday marked a rest and much Time Splitters 2, which I love - 'cos it has a two-player co-operative mode. I also finished my Diablo 2 : Lord of Destruction character (a sorceress). Plus I continued with my current not-so-short story (which I will finish after the current Fallen Star processing).

We finally have a date for Bea's physiotherapy. Two dates in fact. The first was late January, so I whinged (politely) about how I expected an earlier appointment. I spent several days sulking to be rung again and offered a late November date. So we should have a first appointment before the approaching double-sized birthday.

Both grandmothers are looking forward to the twins' first birthday. One granny-present has already arrived and the other one is planned. And Dom keeps saying "jelly !" and other kids party related things. The twins themselves will be completely indifferent of course - still too young to know what it means (apart from much attention and food).

All-in-all, life in the Camus household goes on...
