Well, both [livejournal.com profile] nevecat and [livejournal.com profile] bateleur have written up timely accounts of Thursday evening, so I'll stick with saying that I enjoyed it. As did Ryan and Bea (someone new to play with !).

Friday brought Frances for pizza and garlic bread. We compared planned holidays and discussed Fallen Star.

The situation in Fallen Star has changed rather drastically. Up until last turn, the players were on a cruise ship (travelling between Felixstowe and Oslo) which had been sealed off from the outside weather conditions in an over-efficient manner. The crew were having problems getting the shutters to lift again and consequently several of the passengers were going stir-crazy. Then, at 04:00 the crew had a breakthrough :

"The engineers finally link the last of the wires together. All around the ship the portholes and windows uncover. All the doors unlock with a heavy click. The skylight in Starview opens and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Then they realise that the stars are gone.

The outside appears to be a huge cavern in which the Fallen Star is sailing. The boat is in a wide river, with dark murky waters. On one shore a large castle can be seen, with seven high walls. The cavern is very dark, but filled with a reddish glow. There seems nowhere for the boat to go except round in a circle, following the river.

On all the doors and windows a fine mist appears - as though the air outside were extremely cold."

Following this :

"The captain announces that the Fallen Star is currently sheltering in a cave off the coast of Denmark and will be back on its journey when all checks are completed."

The players have been obligingly quotable on the subject :

  • [livejournal.com profile] bateleur quoted "we're not in Kansas any more"

  • Martin said of his own character "Ric seems to have an out of context problem"

  • Frances said that her character was "a little busy putting two and two together, making a particularly grisly ‘4’ in Cloister Black font, and then going ‘aagh!’"

  • [livejournal.com profile] ieyasu remarked "the world's going to hell in a hatbox"

  • Rob said of his character that "Breakfast will be forgotten in the light of our cavernousness"

  • Whilst Georgia opinion on her character's fellow passengers' plans "to go and explore the boding castle sounds like going down to the basement with the flashlight as the background music gets all creepy"

  • [livejournal.com profile] chrisvenus posted on an earlier edit "Can I now (having read my turnsheet reply) say 'WTF!'"

  • [livejournal.com profile] inskauldrak quotes from his diplomat character "And now we have a 'fairytale' castle all of our own out there....dammit! this isn't what they train you for in the Service."

  • And, finally, when asked where she thought the Fallen Star was [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins retorted "Not in a cavern in bloody Denmark, that's for sure :)"

Consequently, chief current plan is to listen to a discussion on fairy tales in the library. ;-)

Saturday was bridge with [livejournal.com profile] bateleur, [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen and Bella (who used to work for me). Again my tardiness with Live Journal means that the other two have written up accounts to which I have little to add. I really enjoyed it, though it brought back to me (with full force) how naff low-point hands can be whilst playing rubber bridge. I also drank too much nice white wine (the bottle has disappeared, so I no longer know what sort it was) and not enough nice vanilla coffee (from Hawaii). Both were brought by [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen.

Sunday marked a rest and much Time Splitters 2, which I love - 'cos it has a two-player co-operative mode. I also finished my Diablo 2 : Lord of Destruction character (a sorceress). Plus I continued with my current not-so-short story (which I will finish after the current Fallen Star processing).

We finally have a date for Bea's physiotherapy. Two dates in fact. The first was late January, so I whinged (politely) about how I expected an earlier appointment. I spent several days sulking to be rung again and offered a late November date. So we should have a first appointment before the approaching double-sized birthday.

Both grandmothers are looking forward to the twins' first birthday. One granny-present has already arrived and the other one is planned. And Dom keeps saying "jelly !" and other kids party related things. The twins themselves will be completely indifferent of course - still too young to know what it means (apart from much attention and food).

All-in-all, life in the Camus household goes on...
