Unforgettable
Dec. 15th, 2021 07:07 pmI've just finished the first season of Unforgettable. And... it was OK. I liked the central premise of using a perfect memory. The central character was fine, a bit too lucky, but OK. The minor characters were all really good (Mike, Roe, Nina and Joanne). The male lead was, well, not given particularly great lines. Also, the romance between the lead characters felt rather forced and, frankly forgettable. So I'll stick with it for another season, although I didn't much like how much was unresolved at the end of the first one.
Unavowed by Wadjet Eye - it's rather awesome if you like plot and point-and-click games.
Summary - definitely worth it.

Knights Errant
Dec. 5th, 2021 09:17 pmToday was Knights Errant (season 2, session 3). We've found what we hoped was ground zero of the demon infestation and, sadly, it seems it probably wasn't. Although it was at least interesting (a little copse of demons sleeping around a black skull). And now I have a tactic named after my character - standing well back when someone is about to do something risky is called doing a Viktoria.
Xmas afternoon
Dec. 4th, 2021 07:13 pmI hadn't expected to make more than the meal on Friday which was our team Xmas lunch/afternoon. I had to go to an important meeting in the afternoon. Except... it was cancelled. So, feeling like an escaped toddler about to be recalled, I headed out.
The meal was the Xmas menu at the Nags Head in Covent Garden. Chosen in part because it had vegan options for each of the three courses. I had the brie, the turkey and the tiramisu. All very good. And I could drink as I wasn't going back to the office.

We then headed off to our Escape Rooms. Mine, for copyright reasons, was called "Blackwing's cave" and was superhero themed. Also, we started off in darkness. It was pretty good and I really enjoyed being there. After that I headed home as I was exhausted from an otherwise horrendous week.

Yesterday morning I woke up in a lot of pain. My waist hurt, my bottom hurt and all the way down my right leg hurt. Moving hurt. Not moving was sort of OK (although coughing wasn't) until I moved and then it *really* hurt. At first I thought it was something to do with the flu jab. Instead, the symptoms are a direct match for sciatica.
This turns out to be the only illness I've come across where the way to deal with the symptoms is to move around constantly. I was on my feet for much of the day. My usual past time of gaming wasn't really an option. And I did a lot of stand-up reading.
I was dreading sleeping, but the advice about propping myself with a cushion helped. And today it's all easier. I'm not sure about work next week, but I'll take that a day at a time.

We've spent the weekend in Bristol - which could arguably rival Milton Keynes for its roundabouts. It was a lovely weekend and we did pretty well with the weather. Each day started with heavy rain, but it disappeared quickly.
Thursday we drove down in the afternoon and met Emma for a late afternoon walk. In the evening Dom, Ryan and I had dinner at a nearby pub - The Golden Heart.
Friday was Wales - Ceiswyn gave us lunch which Icarus begged for. We travelled to see a nearby castle in the afternoon. Friday evening was dinner at the Willy Wicket on Wick Wick roundabout.
Saturday we ended up in south Bristol to see Bernie, Lisa and Max. Also to see a lot of up and down. We had lunch at their local pub and an afternoon walk through the nearby cemetary grounds.

This morning we came home - detouring briefly onto the M3 when some of the M4 was shut.

FFVII relaunch
Sep. 20th, 2021 06:09 pmI went to the Final Fantasy concert in the Royal Albert Hall last night with the usual suspects (Chris V, Krys, Martin, Chris F). Sunday night is where it landed after rescheduling. One surprising thing - it's the first time I've seen a longer queue for the men's toilets than the women's (they've restructured).

The concert itself was excellent. It was the FFVII relaunch event and, much to my surprise, was actually entirely FFVII music (in the past, even when a concert has been marked as an anniversary of a specific game, the second half has generally been a mixture across the series). I loved this as it's my favourite game and my favourite music. One small disappointment - the screen was partially blocked by what I assume is covid-related air circulators above the orchestra (you can see them in the photo).
I can't remember everything that they played but it was almost all from the first Midgar section as that's where the relaunch game is set. I particularly liked the fight music, the main theme and the trains graveyard. I was disappointed with the remake of the Turks theme though - it was nothing like the original and I'm fond of the original. And, of course, they finished on One Winged Angel, after trolling the audience with Aerith's/Aeris' theme (well, for delighted versions of trolling).
I left promptly for my train and it was still horrific. I eventually got home at a quarter to midnight.

Afternoon Tea
Aug. 23rd, 2021 08:48 pmI meant to post this much earlier in the week, but on the second anniversary of our afternoon tea in London... we did afternoon tea in Windsor at the Sir Christopher Wren.

It was rather awesome.
