The Longest Journey (again)
Dec. 28th, 2014 07:19 pmI'm replaying this and then Dreamfall before I move on to Dreamfall Chapters (I don't yet know if Chapters completes the story, but I hope so).
Here's a screenshot. Pretty good for a fifteen years old game.

My original review of The Longest Journey is here. I think it still holds. It's extremely long and verbose. But it's also magical, a wonderful story (or the start of one) and very funny in places.

I weighed myself this morning. Turns out I've actually lost a tiny bit of weight this month. This is not entirely surprising as I had mild cystitis until Christmas (I finally went to the doctor last Monday and got some antibiotics) and so was cutting back on alcohol and, to a lesser extent, sweet things.
Still feels very weird though.

This is Carter - chosen for me by
bateleur and the twins.

She's named after a The Secret World character.
Today has been a good day. Christmas dinner all came together as hoped, I've been playing my new Final Fantasy CD of battle music (with thanks to
quisalan) and I've been for a walk. I'm a bit headachey now - but it was worth the cocktails.

Today is the first day for ages when I didn't have to do anything. So I've been pottering about playing computer games and have bought myself Dreamfall Chapters (which was briefly reduced in price).
I also did a bit of The Secret World Christmas / New Year event. He's a screenshot of my character taken during that.

My rewards included a carrot nose and a holly broach.

It was
bateleur's birthday today. We spent the day at Kew and wandered Holly Walk and the Tree-top Walkway. One odd thing - Palm House made me feel very ill, we thought I might have a reaction to some plant or pollen.
I made a coffee birthday cake when we got back. OK, we've plenty of cake in the house already, but it wasn't birthday cake.

Dec. 19th, 2014 10:33 pmAnd I'm done. My last day went smoothly.
bateleur's parents arrived and we all had a good evening.
Best of all - no necessity for 6:30 starts for a while.

Dec. 15th, 2014 09:26 pmAn odd start to the morning - my train was slightly late and half of it was missing. However, once I got on, it decided to skip the second half of its station list (with a warning just beforehand) so I arrived at about the usual time (although standing all the way).
The day itself went OK. It's my last week of work this year, so is all about getting the last few bits and pieces processed. As usual, there's plenty of scope for extra things to pop up. As for train reading - I've not quite finished Harry Potter but because I had a full bag, today was Eight Days of Luke.

Tea and coffee and mince pies, Eldritch Horror, mulled wine, more Eldritch Horror, Lamb casserole, red wine and mango cake, even more Eldritch Horror, dessert wine and turkish delight and then we finished Eldritch Horror.
That game took longer than I thought.
A Partridge in a Pear Tree
Dec. 12th, 2014 09:33 pmToday we watched the final episode of The Wire season 3. Overall it was an interesting season but it felt mostly like two decent final episodes with the other ten being something of a mess. Bunny's Hamsterdam idea was interesting, but didn't quite feel realistic. I never warmed to Cutty as a character even though I was clearly supposed to, not least on the basis of screen time. And the rest? It felt as though the characters were being kept on because the audience liked them, but without the writers having much idea about what they should be doing. Stringer's stuff was OK and I'm becoming a fan of Omar. The rest weren't so great though. On the plus side, I like where most of the characters ended up, although it looks like season 4 will either have to be heavily political, or have almost a whole new set of Bads.
Yesterday's work dos went quite well. We had a team meal at lunchtime at Zizzi's. Their Christmas menu turned out to be good and the portions were generous (there was a mixed starter with Prosecco followed by my choices of Calzone and Tiramisu). Plus my boss bought a couple of bottles of a rather nice Shiraz. Also, the Secret Santa turned out alright (I wound up with chocolates), although I would have rather not had it happen.
The afternoon quiz went OK. I didn't do particularly well with the rounds, but I tended to be right with the questions I tried. There was also more food and alcohol but I was Much Too Full by then.
