I'm glad it seems a little warmer today, although this may be because I'm feeling a little better.

Below is a picture of the pendant that [livejournal.com profile] bateleur got me for Xmas (along with a coffee bean grinder). It's quite large, but rather beautiful.

I've worn it a couple of times so far.

Today feels really cold to me.

I've not done much other than try to recover from my cold and play Dragon Age. Ryan's just been in to ask for a haircut... in a very roundabout fashion.

Tomorrow I may post about the fight that [livejournal.com profile] ao_lai and I had against the beastie pictured below.

But right now I don't want to talk about it.

(And, no, whatever [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins says, it isn't cute.)

Snoozing

Last night we watched season one of The Booth at the End and then Howl's Moving Castle.

The former was excellent. It's very simple and must have been extremely cheap to make. However, it's a lovely concept and well-written. I'm reluctant to say much about it as more or less anything is a spoiler, but it's somewhat speculative fiction and the lead, Xander Berkeley, is excellent in his role as... well, that's really the question.

The latter was pretty good as well. I do prefer the book (Diana Wynne Jones) but the film tells something of a different story, although with the same main concept and it's rather beautiful.

Also, I'm really enjoying this not working thing.

Boxing Day

Last night Reeve entered into a bit of socialising by sleeping on my feet. It was nice - he doesn't often choose to join us.

Today has been another walk, more Dragon Age and generally pottering around.

I like this holiday lark.

Presents, food, drink.

Then a walk in the park which had very few other people in it.

Then Eldritch Horror (we won), Dragon Age (I've finished the very first part of the mage story) and Lego Rock Band (which I'm currently skipping).

This was the table before we applied food.

We've wrapped all the presents (except my parents' as I won't see them before January). We've been out for a walk and the shopping was all done on Thursday.

I keep wondering whether there's something I've forgotten.

This holly is from the garden. It's actually a couple of weeks old - turns out that it keeps really well.

Also, I have a whole week off. I haven't had that much time off since last summer. I'm planning some game prep.

And I'm done for the year! It's a lovely feeling.

I like my job - but I'm still delighted that I'm finished until 2017. (Well, assuming we don't have an emergency.) My boss is in Scotland and I'm cheerfully drinking a Black Russian. Life is pretty good.

And there was a foot puss last night after months of not sleeping on my feet.

I have one more day of work. I'll be doing it at home though, so I'll avoid commuting. I'll probably get up at my usual time so that I'm done early. Also, it means I should be OK by the time the hospital ring.

From what I can gather, lots of other people finished today. Although not quite all. I think tomorrow's going to feel very sluggish.

This is what I would have posted yesterday if LJ had not been down for maintenance.

It's a screenshot from Star Wars: The Old Republic.

We're still on Hoth.

I have a mix of Christmas traditions. An advent candle and calendar - the latter chosen for artwork rather than chocolates. Then there are the trees, writing cards, making mince pies and - any year I'm at home - making a Christmas cake.

There are also the work events - the team meal and the all-office food and quiz. The last of these happened today. We came last. In part because, for once, I was in a team with people all very close to my own age. So we missed all the things that the younger generations managed and all those that the older generations did. Plus, there wasn't a literature round (but instead three geography rounds and two tube station rounds - although we did well at the latter).

I also have a computing tradition - The Secret World Xmas events. Plus usually replaying one of my point-and-click games. Whether the latter will happen this year, I don't know, because I have a new one lined up that I want to try (Shardlight).

Today [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's family came over to celebrate his birthday (which will be Tuesday) and to hand over various presents of both a birthday and an Xmas nature. We went out to our local Chinese, Swans, for lunch. It was the first time I've been in for lunch and it turned out to be a good call - unlike in the evening, service isn't slowed down by takeaway orders. Also, I'm fond of the place, even though we only manage to go once a year.

We've just watched the third Divergent film - Allegiant. It's really rather awful. It's got a very different plot to the book and I much prefer the book. Not least because the book characters are not nearly so black and white.

I met a friend who was a former work colleague for coffee after work today. However, I ran into a slight snag - where to go for coffee on the West side of St Pauls that isn't a Starbucks? Because, I feel there should be plenty of decent places, it's just that I don't know them as I never go for coffee! (I was expecting her to want alcohol and I had an idea for a pub!)

Anyway, we ended up in Pret and I had a Mocha. We discussed politics (she seemed very relieved when I expressed the same reactions to both Brexit and President-to-be Trump as she felt - we'd never really talked about politics at work). We exchanged news on colleagues we both knew, on families and on career choices (ours and our kids!). It was really good to see her again.

This week, instead of Star Wars, we played The Secret World. We did The Christmas Conspiracy and then then main dungeon. I pretended to be a tank and we managed to win that on our third attempt.

Also, I discovered that neither [livejournal.com profile] ao_lai or Alistair has seen Super Hel before. Apparently it was only me and [livejournal.com profile] chrisvenus last time.
lathany: (Pooting)
The Christmas events - Krampusnacht - are back on The Secret World.

I loaded up, started The Christmas Conspiracy and was hit by a wave of nostalgia. It helped that I still had the piece of paper with all the flute tunes from two years ago.

Then I went on to play The End of Days. This is a screenshot from the middle.

I guess it's the gaming equivalent of The Wizard of Oz.

It's been a quiet weekend and I've been working through various tasks. Over the last couple of days I've made my way through a large amount of washing, cleaned the kitchen floor (a long task because, whilst the floor isn't very big, there are a lot of things that stand on it and need moving), finished the Christmas cake and continued to write Christmas cards. I've also replaced the holly on the dining room table with some fresher stalks and been out for walks on both days.

And I still love my Christmas tree. Which is sad, but true.

Today I managed to take my first screenshots of King Machine.

It's not the most exciting shot ever of the game, but I'm pleased to have got one.

Last night we watched Moonrise Kingdom. It was quite similar to The Grand Budapest Hotel (not surprising as both are Wes Anderson films) and is similarly rather odd, sweet and with gentle humour. This one was about a pair of twelve year olds who had fallen in love along with a lonely cop (Bruce Willis), a scout troop (lead by Edward Norton) and had both Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton. Oh, and it has a really cute kitten.

Yesterday I met [livejournal.com profile] venta for dinner at Tas near Waterloo. We had starters and mains (the website is down, but I had a starter of parcels of cheese and beef and a main of a garlic and prawn casserole and both were excellent). We also shared a bottle of White Rioja and finished with coffees.

In fact, apart from the change of location, it had a lot in common with last year.

Update: The website is now up and I had the Paçanga and the Karides Güveç with rice.

For this week's game, we were missing Alistair. Consequently the three of us spent the evening hunting datacrons.

This picture was taken on Hoth.
