lathany: (Invading)

The first attack upon the city was a backstab. Technically the weapon was poison; the traitor, the attractive Lord Curtis a former suitor of the Duchess Louise, arranged for the palace to receive a general dose and then ran for the outer city. Taronus ([livejournal.com profile] chrisvenus) was dismayed to discover that the poison attacked the body in such a way as to make his healing efforts ineffective whilst Lord Roland ([livejournal.com profile] ao_lai) carried out an investigation to discover the cause (a herb called Margrer) and to successfully uncover the poisoner. Fortunately none of the Lathany party had received a large dose. Whilst healers - under the guidance of the High Priest Narimon - worked within the palace, the streets outside were under attack from the huge felines of Duke Valentin's army.

In the morning, Lady Bryanna ([livejournal.com profile] quisalan) received a message ("Taliesin") from a former priestess offering the Lathanians sanctuary as the first wave of soldiers attacked the gates. She thanked the messenger, but declined the offer. Instead the party split their time between the war room and patrolling the city offering advice and military assistance.

Upon a suggestion by Lord Roland, a pair of Empathy mages working with a group of Chir Blades and accompanied by Heleth ([livejournal.com profile] venta) began a tour of the city. Their aim was to locate and kill the enemy felines before night fell again. Meanwhile Tengath ([livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy) and Gref ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur) worked on locating the enemy army and mages.

Then another, excellent, suggestion was made, also by Lord Roland. Acting upon the idea, the High Mage Barnabus went out to find the hunting group. Upon locating the next feline, Barnabus took control of it and sent it back to attack the enemy Empathy mages. The cat took out a good third of their numbers before being killed. Whereupon the entire group of felines was called home and Barnabus was able to wreak greater havoc by controlling a second one of the returners and reduce the mages numbers further. Additionally, Taronus added a mental link of his own to this second feline and mind blasted the remaining enemy mages.

Tengath and Gref spent most of the day watching the enemy forces. Finally, convinced that the nighttime attack would be upon the South gate, they informed the war room and plans were made to deal with this. As the afternoon drew on, Fulton and the army in the North had defeated the Kelitire forces and were marching towards Loritath. The assault upon the Gate would need to succeed that night if Valentin and Sarabella stood a chance of taking Chir Shrine before Duke Fulton arrived outside the city.

The enemy army did indeed attack the South Gate. After a number of attacks from Empathy mages and a number of battering rams, the gate itself began to collapse. Heleth, Lady Bryanna and Taronus joined the fighting whilst Tengath watched the general progress of the Chir Shrine forces. Finally, despite impressive swordspersonship from the Lathanians, it seemed that the enemy would take the city. At this moment, Tengath brought his full powers upon the enemy army. To a man they turned and fled, leaving Louise's forces victorious. The army left the outer city and began the journey back to Loritath.

Duchess Louise formally thanked the Lathanians and gave them an estate (Lord Curtis') as reward. Duke Fulton sent a second messenger to the city to speak with Louise and agree a plan of action against the Lirrisorn. Additionally, he agreed to consider acknowledging the independence of the Rogue Stones so that the latter would be free to heal the lands. Then, just before he departed, he told them that the Royal Jewels had been stolen from Duke Yarrow.

So, finally, the Lathanian party have abandoned their neutrality.

Note to players (3) : Please let me know about any obvious (or subtle) omissions - I left it a bit too long before writing up this time.

Well, since magic was involved in both cases, I can officially say neither of the suggestions were Heleth's :)

Note 1: Can't really remember. I'd guess Chris F but I may be wrong.

Note 2: I knwo I'd been thinking about this but I believe the suggestion was Chris's.

Note 3: You forgot to mention that I mindblasted people when the second cat went back. That was great. Whee!! :)
