Well, the main thing I got out of that episode was the comparison with Oz in Buffy. His original problem when discovered in Phases is treated far more lightly with the "just stay in a cage three nights a month" approach. OK, they revise it a little in Wild at Heart / New Moon Rising, but ultimately there was none of the pathos that was present in this episode surrounding Nina. (and... he killed Veruca - right ? So why didn't she change back to human form ?)

Apart from that I didn't like it much. The cookery stuff was just plain nasty, even given that the guy in question was a traitor. And the rest ? It seemed that they felt obliged to name-check their season plotlines without advancing anything.

Reminder that Spike's about to go to hell ? Check.
Worry about the Ultimate Plans of the Senior Partners ? Check.
Unease about Gunn's metamorphosis ? Check.
Further tension on the Wesley/Gunn/Fred triangle ? Check.
Worry about Knox the science guy ? Check.

Plot Advance ? Not this week.

<sigh>

Hey, I was rooting for Dr Phlox (the traitor) as a semi-permanent member of the cast cos he's totally wasted in the current incarnation of Star Trek even though he's the best thing in it.

I think [livejournal.com profile] _alanna has it right - they're still spinning up to speed with the great plot flywheel. Lets hope that when they decide to actually do anything, it's good.

Two opening episodes explaining the new concept of the law-firm and introducing Buffy fans to the Angel-verse (+ Spike), then a filler episode before they kick off with some introductory plot? I can understand their reasoning, but I agree - the plot had better be good when it finally arrives!

Ummm...could it be because she's small, young, female and blonde?
Sorry, but the writers seem to be having a hard time digging out of the stereotype rut they dug for themselves.

And the restaurant issue - hmmm, flashbacks to when Angel locked Harlan and a bunch of Snack-o-matic lawyers in the cellar with the comment "But somehow I can't seem to care"?

They're having David Eddings syndrome, methinks.
