lathanyWell, the main thing I got out of that episode was the comparison with Oz in Buffy. His original problem when discovered in Phases is treated far more lightly with the "just stay in a cage three nights a month" approach. OK, they revise it a little in Wild at Heart / New Moon Rising, but ultimately there was none of the pathos that was present in this episode surrounding Nina. (and... he killed Veruca - right ? So why didn't she change back to human form ?)
Apart from that I didn't like it much. The cookery stuff was just plain nasty, even given that the guy in question was a traitor. And the rest ? It seemed that they felt obliged to name-check their season plotlines without advancing anything.
Reminder that Spike's about to go to hell ? Check.
Worry about the Ultimate Plans of the Senior Partners ? Check.
Unease about Gunn's metamorphosis ? Check.
Further tension on the Wesley/Gunn/Fred triangle ? Check.
Worry about Knox the science guy ? Check.
Plot Advance ? Not this week.
