Am I a practical, sensible parent or just one of those women who never should have sprogged ? Either way, I didn't once ring the grandparents to find out how they (or the twins) were getting on (although I admit I was expecting them to call).

Tuesday

Tuesday morning dawned and, some hours later, I staggered out of bed. I was just in time to see [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen and [livejournal.com profile] frax head off to Millom whilst I stayed in, ate croissants and washed my hair. Having seen [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen prove that [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's filter-coffee-providing fix didn't work I switched to tea. Fortunately "instant coffee" was on the shopping list so that it arrived as I was starting to develop withdrawl symptoms.

My Tuesday game was the initial one I had planned to run at the Con and I was nervous about how it might go. Actually it was about the fifth incarnation of "Dawn's BadgerCon Game", meaning that I had already rejected all sorts of game ideas for being too impractical whilst starting to wonder whether I would actually be running anything (particularly anything non-Swordsmastery) at all. However, inspiration had finally struck towards the end of April and this was the result.

I had named it Working With Children on the grounds that the player characters would be. I had some experience of my own in this area, having worked with my mother (she taught 6-8 year olds) during my post-exam post-school weeks. Consequently, I know I would make a rotten teacher. My players ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur, [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan, [livejournal.com profile] lanfykins, [livejournal.com profile] triskellian and [livejournal.com profile] cuthbertcross), on the other hand, may all be missing their vocation in life.

Working With Children's memorable moments :

  • [livejournal.com profile] triskellian following the spirit of Zoe's character sheet and deciding that her daughter "little Charlotte" was likely to be on a special chocolate-free feeding regime. "I've never seen wholemeal yoghurt before."

  • [livejournal.com profile] bateleur having the cheek to suggest that Fred's fashion sense was worse than his own (due to the long, dark green suit he wore to work)

  • The horror of the teaching staff when they spotted "Visit to Legoland" on the week's schedule

  • Jenni's ([livejournal.com profile] cuthbertcross's) interpretations of Mr Papworth's handwriting. "Is that 'camels' or 'castles' ?" "It's 'consequently'."

  • Anjali's ([livejournal.com profile] lanfykins's) handling of Samantha's long absence on a visit to the girls toilets. "There's so much blood."

  • Manny's ([livejournal.com profile] smiorgan's) instructions of how to draw "breakfast" pictures and their result. "Sadie has chocolate milk for breakfast, Mummy."

  • The fairy tale stereotypes. Farmer's wives bustle, Stewards fuss and all barmen are beaming, stout, red-faced men with aprons.

  • The fact that Jenni was quite prepared to dismantle the throne-room suits of armour with the King watching her.

  • Lastly - my favourite - Manny's diversion speech to the Ogres. You had to be there; no aspect of their lives was left un-mentioned or un-insulted.

The party successfully handled the two classes, rescued the brothers from Fairytale land, nearly drowned Oliver (class problem) at Legoland ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur thinks that "little Charlotte" pushed him) and saw the brothers head off to join their mother. Sadly, I never did get to finish "I was riding a pig in a bright yellow wig".

Wednesday

Wednesday morning was the morning of much Hut paranoia. Again, a subject better handled in [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's LJ.

The rest of the day was Talos which was [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's "mechanoids in ancient Greece" game. I played Laesti; a ward of the temple of Aphrodite with an appearance score which roughly approximated to a Charisma of 19. This little detail meant that she was rather insulted when [livejournal.com profile] inskauldrak's complete letch (Captain Narosus) failed to make a sufficient effort to chase her. This was, in part, due to [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen's Veridian (follower of Artemis) glowering at him whenever he made a move - but not sufficient excuse, I feel. The other party members were Rob's "High Priest of Zeus" Koidar and [livejournal.com profile] two_nukes's "Scout of The Dodgy Governor" Erezantias.

Talos's memorable moments :

  • Captain Narosus going out "for supplies" in the lunch hour and coming back looking both flushed and smug (he also remembered the supplies).

  • The shameless bribing of the Oracle of Delphi (Apollo got some temple defense and a shag out of it).

  • Veridian's defense of Laesti's "virginity".

  • Laesti's obsession with the Talos Titan.

  • The fact that the Hades Titan had a skirt.

  • Koidar smiting the Hades Titan with a lightening bolt to finish it off.

  • Erezantias failing to see the huge circle of undead guarding the courtyard due to [livejournal.com profile] two_nukes's complete incompetence with dice.

Athens eventually fell to the Spartans but I got to keep Talos.

It's now baby releasing time, so the last couple of days will have to wait for a final entry.

I could correct them, but I really can't be bothered...

<collapses in giggles at the description of Working with Children>

Although of course, little Charlotte was far too well brought up to push someone into the lake. Even Oliver ;-)

And I'd like to add a memorable moment:
  • [livejournal.com profile] lathany reading fairy tales to an enraptured group of PCs ;-)

<takes a bow>

Flattery is, of course, always acceptable.
