Rather inelegantly the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census) seems to think it is "censuses" and the lj spell check seems to agree with it.

Hmm. I tried that and it just looks wrong. Ah well, I never was particularly good at spelling.

I don't think it looks right either. It's clearly just one of those 'wrong' words.
