What is the plural of census?

Rather inelegantly the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census) seems to think it is "censuses" and the lj spell check seems to agree with it.

Hmm. I tried that and it just looks wrong. Ah well, I never was particularly good at spelling.

I don't think it looks right either. It's clearly just one of those 'wrong' words.

In Latin, I'd assume it goes census, censum, census, censui, censu, census, census, censuum, censibus, censibus. Hence a plural of census, not censi.

In English, "censuses" :)

Ummmm . . . those books with Henwen? Lloyd Alexander? Am I close?

Oh, wait, this isn't one of those quote games, is it?

...and indeed I hadn't intended that to be a quote from anywhere so much as an archetypal Grumpy Old Sensei (TM) response !

Well, it sounds very Dalben-like. All you were missing was a snore afterwards.:-)
On the little farm, while Taran and Coll saw to the plowing, sowing, weeding, reaping, and all the other tasks of husbandry, Dallben undertook the meditating, an occupation so exhausting he could accomplish it only by lying down and closing his eyes.

Oh dear - glad to know I wasn't the only one who read of Taran and his adventures...

I just read the series for the first time last year, at my husband's insistence. It was thoroughly enjoyable, and I'm sorry I didn't read it when I was younger.
