So, it appears that holly does get its own window after all.

[livejournal.com profile] bateleur's birthday meal last night was well received (I don't often cook any non-simple dishes, so was pleased it worked out OK), the wine was excellent and there's still plenty of chocolate cake left. The twins will get to try it today and I'm confident of it going down well (particularly if I call it "muffin").

The cold outside came as something of a shock this morning (although I still much prefer it to being overheated in the summer). I find it easier to believe that it's going to be freezing when there's a clear sky than when there's cloud around. We wheeled the twins down to the playground to make up for the lack of playgroup, but we didn't stay long (not least because Ryan soaked his trousers after I failed to spot a puddle on the slide).

Another twenty-four hours and then we'll be off for the food, luxury and babysitting services of Cambridge.

My imaginary calendar had a large blacmange with numerous body piercings and big black boots. :o)
Hope you get a tiny bit of time to yourself at christmas, and enjoy it. xxx

Christmas pudding for me today.

Why, oh why, are Chistmas puds in pictures always spherical. Why ? Has anyone ever seen a spherical pud ? How on earth would you make one ?

In my world, puds are made in bowls, and are thus bowl shaped (so hemi-spherical, but only quite approximately).

My next questions:

Why would you make one, and how did they do so in the days before anodised aluminium ?

For anyone who cares, the answer to this appears to be "in a muslin bag".

Also I suspect you could get quite a convincing spherical shape if you wrapped up the pudding in muslin to steam it, like in Victorian times.
