Does anyone know the current guidelines (or rules) surrounding trick or treat in the UK? I'm interested from the "policing" side.

My (personal) guidelines are:
1. Don't be in.
2. Failing that, turn the lights off, close the lounge door and hide! (The lounge is at the back of the house).

I've had one ocassion where the kids yelled "trick or treat", and I said "trick!" So they wandered off, being very confused...

I was more interested in whether it was legal still. Or what the police did about complaints (on both sides - razor blades in sweets / damage to houses).

Whatever happened to good old guising?

We had to earn our sweets in the old days... songs, jokes, stories, the lot!

The lot?

Well, that's one interpretation of trick!

Some people acted out little plays, or danced.

We worked for the reward!
