Angel Review

lathanyI quite enjoyed this episode. Nice to see Andrew again - the first person to disconcert Spike at all - but I would have preferred one of the others, perhaps Xander given the feud he once had with Angel.
I thought that the "Spike did it" plot was very nice because it seemed believable for a short while even though I was sitting on the sofa thinking but Spike doesn't do the torture thing... that's more in Angelus' line. I also liked the beginning, the rather X-filesy approach which brought back the feel of the first seasons (of both Buffy and Angel). Also, the contrast between Spike and Angel's methods and pre-soul characters (chaotic vs ordered) was also well done and showed continuity (an increasing rarity).
What didn't I like ? Well, pretty much the whole Buffy ordering action against Angel thing. Andrew remarked (as has been often underlined this season) that Angel and co were no longer on the same side. Even if Buffy wasn't about to go that far, I still find it difficult to believe that she'd have doubts about Angel's switch to Wolfram and Hart (which suddenly appears to be famous despite Angel being unaware of the firm at the start of the first season) without turning up or sending someone else to check on it all. OK SMG is effectively unavailable, but surely one of the Scooby gang (meaning Giles, Willow, Dawn or Xander) could have been sent (of course, that would have meant a different episode - so maybe the now-evangelical Andrew was the right choice for Damage).
Having said all that, I did appreciate Spike's comment that the Dana was closer to monster (like himself, Angel and presumably Faith) than human and that the slayers might not be able to cure her (after all, only Angel cured Faith). With the follow-up that even he and Angel had been innocent victims once.
Half-way. With the 100th episode coming up next week (mild spoilers provided by Sky One).

So the Angel people mention Wolfram and Hart, and the Buffy people look into it?
But they're not too good with the continuity here - you would have expected the whole 'army of slayers' thing to be something the Buffy people mentionned... plus the Buffy people are supposed to be off roaming the globe, which kinda knocks the theory again...
