As the worst of the colds and food poisoning was over, I took the twins to their toddler groups last week.

Wednesday involved a lot of sand pit enjoyment for Bea and railway track upsetting for Ryan. Thursday I made two Mothers Day cards with a little help and a lot of hindrance from Beatrice "glue !" Katrin and Ryan "bored now" Blake. They (the cards) are now sitting on the mantelpiece awaiting processing before they go into the twins scrap books.

The weekend was quite good. Saturday was a free day (for what seems like the first time in ages) so I bodded around looking after the twosome, playing computer games and reading On Broadway by Damon Runyon. [livejournal.com profile] bateleur went into Staines for a new watch battery for me, a keyboard for Ryan and, I'm hoping, a present for my approaching 34th.

Sunday was [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin's Daedalus session. There was some roleplaying, but rather more chocolate birthday cake eating (it was a very chocolatey cake with "Happy Birthday Corinne" written on top) by all and sundry (including the moment when Ryan quietly nicked [livejournal.com profile] frax's helping of cake - we're hoping for a good picture of this). There was also the making (and eating) of the sticky toffee pudding (by [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin) whereupon I expressed horror at the idea of paying £40 for a (1.5 litre) pudding bowl.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] bateleur brought home a present for me from [livejournal.com profile] venta. It was a jap, a cake which had to be exported down from up north. Having eaten it, I can say I thoroughly approve of japs and feel that they should also be made down here. It was a yummy combination of what seemed to be flaky layers of meringue with cream and had a little chocolate bean shape on the top.

This morning I started the day rebatterying various toys including the Discovery Ball (music and alphabets) and the mobile phone. I then took the twins out to Tescos and ended up stuck there for some time as we watched the hail come down across the car park. Ryan was not impressed. He made it clear that I should be doing something to stop it. As I failed to act he shared his disapproval with the entire car park.

This weekend should mark a mini absence of twins (who are going to Cambridge for the birthday weekend and staying until Wednesday) and consequently I'll be able to spend some time with [livejournal.com profile] bateleur without a couple of small toddlers bringing me books every two minutes. I'll also be able to have a lie in. I think lie ins are what I miss most about parenthood.
