Little Teds
Jan. 8th, 2004 01:50 pmToday marked a great occasion - the first Camus mother and toddler group (named "Little Teds").
The morning did not start well. We awoke to discover that the weather forecast was for torrential rain and gale force winds. It was already raining (but not what I'd describe as "torrentially") and I whinged. After about five minutes of my moaning
bateleur offered to give me a lift in (it's approximately a half-hour walk).
Of course, because it was a wet morning, everyone else was also out in their cars. However I arrived at the school (where the group is held) with a couple of minutes to spare. Consequently I was sent the wrong way twice. Once when I was hunting down the school office to sign in, and once when I was searching for the Community Room where the group is held.
I eventually got to the right place ten minutes late... and was one of the first there. Beatrice picked this moment to burst into tears whilst Ryan refused to let go of my hand. However, several boxes of toys later they had both cheered up and were wandering around.
Today's session was a sort of coffee morning with plenty of toys for the children ("Don't forget to mention the biscuits !" - Beatrice). It's not always like this (I'm told). Sometimes they have specific activities arranged - Ryan is now looking forward to the "movement and music" class. There are twelve children in total, although only seven or eight made it in today. I was pleased to discover that there was another set of twins - identical girls called Chloe and Jodie.
All-in-all it was a pleasant morning. I had coffee, sociable company (although I appeared to be the only one that hadn't seen the Ray-thingamy programme earlier in the week) and plenty of information about nurseries and other play groups (I've been persuaded to try the Wednesday morning one held at the Oasis church). Plus they also have training courses during term-time with a creche at reasonable prices. I was briefly tempted by an "Indian head massage" course, but decided I'd like to attend a few more sessions before I did one. But maybe next term I'll sign up for something.
Then, to end a good morning, the walk back was dry and warm. So - a success !
We'll make two more sessions before the twins head grannywards. Only sixteen more days to go !

So my "six parents and 12 children" joke wasn't so far from the mark !
Glad it went well...

Date: 2004-01-08 07:36 am (UTC)Either way, it's well worth watching and gives some curious insights into child behaviour. And some fun experiments to do on your kids to assess their level of development :o) They're repeating episodes from previous years on BBC four (7.15 every evening, I think), although last night's was during the pregnancy, and I think tonight's will be too.
