Yesterday was the last Monde session of 2003.
We waited in Tointier for a couple of days to see whether Andreas (
onebyone) would receive a response to his letter. During this time Imogen (myself) was followed by a Guardian who had ben told of our arrival back in Monde and believed I was one of the Lords of Tointier. This Guardian told the Squire (
smiorgan) that he worked for the Fourth.
After receiving no reply, we left the city and travelled to the Forge. As we had been warned back in the Schools, we were followed. Sigurne's (
ealuscerwen) wards caught two men sneaking into our camp. A brief fight later (including an impressive spell from the Squire) and one of them readily admitted they had been following us. It seems that there is a large bounty to be collected for the heads of the Lords of Tointier.
We eventually arrived at the Forge without further trouble to discover that it had been destroyed. Travelling to the village, we were told that the Staff had killed the Shaman and since been relieved of his post. We spoke with the Chieftain and the Squire became uneasy believing that something was wrong with him. When Sigurne touched him she received some sort of mental break (translation : there was a focus test incident). At that point the Chieftain could be heard speaking to the (dead) Shaman. Sigurne urged the villagers to elect a new Staff quickly and we left the area heading for Esselring and the Castle of Sage (Master Dolem - spelt ?).
Towards the end of this second journey Sable (
frax) found an army camp. It looked like it belonged to the Fourth. And, yet again, we were followed. This time the pursuer broke through the wards and was spotted heading into the centre of the camp. Another bandit ? Nope. Actually a two-metre long tortoise. Covered in runes. Sigurne tried to dispell the runes. Then she killed the tortoise. Six warriors appeared as the knife blade went in, two (at least) of which could cast magic.
Katako (
triskellian) moon-jumped back to camp in a hurry, Sigurne used a rune stick on one, I cast a disarm spell at all of them (and sadly hit Andreas as well) and one of them started a spell which cast Walled Stone runes across me. Fortunately Andreas heroically took him down. A couple of rounds of combat later and it was all over. We decided that we were close enough to the castle that we were going to walk there now in case anything else showed up.
We got to the castle without any further problems. Fortunately for us, Ghol was there. He showed us the Mandala Key, we talked about our journey. We came up with a new plan - to travel to Igan-Duna and find Leosa (tutor of Sianlocke). We collected some fresh supplies from Master Dolem and set off.
This third journey was uneventful. We arrived at Igan-Duna unharmed to discover that the Bordermen were preparing to move north and attack Esselring after it had been weakened by fighting the Fourth's army. We worried about the news and looked for ways to enter the mine.
Dropping down a chimney shaft and magicking the guards worked beautifully. We were further helped by Sable remembering the route of her dream. We followed it and Ghol used the Ghost Hammer on the barrier to the tomb.
We followed the rest of the path and reached the tomb itself. Leosa appeared to us and announced that Sable was his selected pupil. He also said that he had learnt the lessons of the past. He put up barriers around the tomb and gave us some important information about the Walled Stone (which I believed to be true - it ties in with some of the information we found in the Forge).
The Walled Stone is the only manifestation of a powerful being trapped in a prison. If its captors (based outside of Monde) knew that the stone existed they would destroy it. Therefore the encirclement is likely to have been created by the Walled Stone to protect it. Leosa added that the being might want the Mandala Key so that it could, some day, spread its influence (through the Walled Stone and its agents) further than Monde.
Leosa then asked to speak to Sable alone.
One post-session thought : I've been using the Monde webpages to get the right spellings of the Monde cities. I had another look at the history page and there is a slight hint that either the Fourth or a similarly powerful being (a Deizuno by the name of Ezene) is female. Could this be the Warrior Queen/Mother of Swords of Sirvi's recital ?
