Old Clothes
Sep. 25th, 2003 05:24 pmToday I started the much-delayed task of sorting through my old clothes; working out which I might wear again (almost none of them) and which I was going to put in the charity/recycling bag.
Had you asked me earlier in the day what size I was at my thinnest (ten years ago) I would have said I had a few size twelves, but I was mainly a size fourteen. However, sorting through today, it was size twelves and size tens - admitted 'large' tens - but still a bit of a shock. All the trousers were at least size fourteen, though (out of interest - is there anyone out there who has ever been a skirt size larger than a trousers size ?) This gave me an odd feeling; not least because I remember wearing some of those clothes after I got married (the point at which I began the expansion back to my current size).
Additionally, whilst the clothes were about as creased as I expected (very), then seemed, well, duller. Possibly because colours fade over time, but I was convinced that my blue suit had been a nice, bright blue rather than the grey-blue it now appears to be. And the same went for my long brown-and-red skirt and my pale blue top.
It was also an interesting trip down memory lane and I had to force myself to throw away the things I would never wear again rather than storing them in the pretense that somehow my figure would change back.
Must take the twins out for a nice walk to the recycling bins.

Could this just be because when you get all misty-eyed and nostalgic, the cinematographer applies a sepia tint?

Date: 2003-09-26 04:25 am (UTC)Surely the cinematographer would have applied the sepia tint to the flashback? Thus, it should appear brighter in the current time...

OK, in that case there's a grey filter on the *present*, and the flashbacks have the brightness pushed up.
Which, in cinematographic terms, means that the flashbacks are the real story, and modern-day lathany is just the narrator.
