Update, list-style
Sep. 3rd, 2003 09:08 amIt's been an interesting few days. Starting with the new Tomb Raider film.
My parents babysat, so
bateleur and I went to see Tomb Raider II.
Good points :
* Chris Barrie
* Pandora's Box - because it's not a standard "mythical treasure" item that heroes go looking for (compare with, eg, the Holy Grail)
* The first temple sequence
* Angelina Jolie
Bad points :
* Not enough Chris Barrie
* Lack of plot
* Lack of intelligent bad guys
* The romantic interest
Friday was also good for strawberries - we bought the special offer from Tesco and had two large punnets worth.
The weekend itself was a mixture of Final Fantasy VI, twins and doing a batch of little tasks I've been meaning to get round to for a while.
I finally managed the following :
* Mowing the back garden
* Completing my tax return (on-line)
* Writing a couple of story reviews
* Getting rid of the boxes in the bedroom
* Making baby-friendly lasagne
FFVI continues to hold my interest. Although not as good as VII, of course.
TV-wise,
bateleur and I have started watching 24 (series 2). I'll review this when we've seen all twenty-four episodes. So far - OK, some bad and some good.
Finally,
cuthbertcross rang with some excellent news - now out on her LJ ;-)
Monday was very unusual - I had a visitor, in the shape of
cardinalsin.
We sat around and chatted and occasionally ate cookies (the latter were coveted by Beatrice and, surprisingly, Ryan - a first for him). Subjects included :
* Working for the Office for National Statistics
* The recent engagement(s)
* Roleplaying games (including, but not limited to, Swordsmaster, Warhammer, Amber, Final Fantasy and Colony)
* The growing roleplaying contingent in West London (ie.
chrestomancy,
cuthbertcross, <lj user="rob_the_ljless">,
frax,
bateleur and ourselves. Plus the plans to persuade
ealuscerwen to join us.
* Bridge - in particular, playing duplicate
* Uncooperative ferrets
Yesterday evening my friend Ruth came to visit; to drink red wine and eat pizza and fruit crumble.
We talked about life back in the office (the good old days of CPGID - Consumer Prices and General Inflation Division), babies, pregnancy, marriages, life with Steve (her partner - whom I've always failed to meet) and other things.
We were both amused when she said "Beatrice looks just like Dom !" Because Beatrice does, but most people tell us that Ryan looks just like
bateleur ('cos he's the boy). She also talked about the reaction in the office when I went into labour. Apparently there was much panicking behind the scenes (stuck in Winchester, I knew nothing about this). Every time
bateleur posted a new entry on the website, people expected it to include Bea's death (which is odd to remember, when looking at her now).
We also agreed that we must meet up again "more frequently", but, frankly, I suspect we'll have the same problems organising a day next time around. So the six monthly meetings look set to continue (IMO).
And that brings me to today. This morning I voted in the GameFaqs competition final (which is, appropriately, Cloud vs Sephiroth) and I have a day of writing and Swordsmaster preparation planned. Oh, and twins, of course.
