BadgerCon part 1 (of course)
May. 25th, 2003 12:24 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It rained. A lot. On the minus side this meant that the people who were keen to see the Lakes really, mostly, didn't; whilst those of us who signed up to every game going had a really great week. Having been to Brockwood Hall many times, I fell into the latter category.
Friday
Strictly speaking, Friday wasn't part of Badgercon. However, I spent the whole day packing for three (
bateleur can do his own), ironing lots of clothes (although I only took half of the stuff I ironed) and then driving to Cambridge to park Ryan and Beatrice with the first set of grandparents. This was also the day that I found all my postcards whilst looking for walking boots. These postcards contain all the cartoon
lathanys that
bateleur drew for me, so I should have some new LJ pictures soon.
I enjoyed Friday. I liked organising stuff (particularly when I get to do it alone) and I liked having other people to change nappies for me at the end of the day. The minus point was Beatrice howling at my mother when she had her nappy changed. She had obviously forgotten that grannies are great.
Saturday
We set off fairly early on Saturday stopping at a Tesco to buy supplies (there was no room when the twins things were in the car). Then I got to play my compilations on the CD player whilst
bateleur went paler and paler as the journey progressed. We arrived in the pouring rain and I picked up the key for Hut (
chrestomancy had Huta and Hutaga </blatant Final Fantasy reference>).
frax and
cardinalsin were there when I arrived, having been given a lift by
triskellian and
smiorgan (early because they wanted to get a good room) so the four of us trooped over to Hut (also known as Buttermere) and three of us unpacked whilst
bateleur tried to recover. We had visitors (
triskellian,
smiorgan,
cuthbertcross and Rob) whilst we sat around talking and waiting for the rest of the Con to arrive.
onebyone and
ealuscerwen finally appeared (having watched Southampton lose to Arsenal) and we cooked dinner and chatted even more (conversation included "I can't believe that Toby and Gemma got married today they are so young", etc.). Finally a scout (Rob, I think) arrived to prod us into going over to Hutaga to talk roleplaying. We sent him off with a list of our planned games and the telephone number of Hut and were later summoned to go and talk scheduling.
Scheduling wasn't terribly successful - but we eventually sorted out games for Sunday. After that we sat around and chatted. A lot.
Note : You know how every Con has had a bunch of unsociable cliquey b*stards ? Yep - that was us. We spent a lot of time in our own Hut (although being the furthest away and having a bunch of late risers we were never going to make any of Amanda's cooked breakfasts - 09:30 start ? No way !) and the one time we wandered over to Hutaga to play Bridge we did so as a group tucked away in the corner.
onebyone did a bit of post-game socialising, though, so may be excused.
Further Note : Although possibly those people who got stoned outside a lot also qualify as unsociable b*stards.
Further, Further Note : Also those people who played b*gger all qualify. Except possibly
lanfykins 'cos it wasn't all her fault.
Last Note :
chrestomancy, our great and surly Gibbon organiser was, of course, not an unsociable b*stard at all. All those stories about him being permanent welded to his GBA are lies.
This Really Is The Last Note, Honest : And the same goes for
zandev and Mr LJ Anonymous.
OK. I've only reached Saturday and twins need dinner. Sunday onwards (including the actual games) to follow.
