Two episodes with a certain amount of similarity...
Dirty Girls
Enter Caleb, protege of the First Evil, leader of the Bringers, destroyer of the Watcher's Council (wasn't their anyone else to help him ?), and an ex-priest to boot. He looks like being around until the end of the season and, in common with pretty much all the Buffy Big Bads, can wipe the floor with the Slayer(s). Nice to see Faith again; nice to see Giles (or would have been if he'd actually had more than one scene).
Buffy, the smart general-type that she is, walks into an obvious trap (just about everyone else tells her not to) and a couple of the potentials end up dead. Maybe Giles could still teach her a thing or two. But it was Xander losing his eye that upset me. An interesting episode, a nice new bad guy and probably part of the lead up to the season finale.
Inside Out
Moving on from an episode where the good guys got their a*ses kicked to... an episode where the good guys get their a*ses kicked. Any other week I would have enjoyed Inside Out, but following Dirty Girls it just seemed like more of the same. Also, Angel going to kill Cordelia before she gave birth was so like him going to stake Darla before she became a vampire (Reunion) - you knew he would be just too late.
On the other hand, it was good to see the gang finally figure it out, good to see Gunn come up with some sound advice and good to see Darla again (even if she makes a better bad guy). I found the "Skip has always been a bad" plotline was not terribly plausible - it simply felt as though the idea had only arisen this season and that the scriptwriters were trying to pretend otherwise. And the newcomer ? Looks promising.
Well, this is likely to be my last update for a while. Certainly I expect next week's review to be delayed (and will only happen if I can get the video to work). Twin dumping is scheduled for late this evening and I still have plenty of packing (for them and for me) beforehand.
Oh and my P60 arrived in the post. A three figure salary for last year - the effects of paid maternity leave ending.
