Two good episodes last night.

Storyteller

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. There were some great one-liners (eg. "I hope to God that wasn't a student"), the romantic plots were taken forward in the background and the main plot advanced. We were Giles-less, but it didn't feel like anyone else got his lines. The ending resolution was nice and I wonder what the First Evil plans to do now. Plus all the video bits were short enough not to become irritating.

[livejournal.com profile] bateleur commented that this is the sort of episode that Buffy does best; humourous, but with plot movement all the same. I agree. The trouble with the "funny" episodes in recent years is that they tended to be concentrated just on the joke of the episode, leaving the main plot almost untouched (eg. I Was Made To Love You). Consequently, they mostly stuck out like a sore thumb.

Orpheus

The main problem with Orpheus was caused by Sky One. Essentially the trailers looked better than the episode. Why ? Because they made it seem as though Willow was actually fighting Cordelia in the open and therefore the gang now knew she was evil. Apart from that, it was a good episode.

Orpheus highlighted the contrast in show style between Buffy and Angel without Willow herself seeming too out of place. The curse was performed, but the action was shifted making Faith vs Connor the highlight this time around (but no swords). Best of all Angel is back, Cordelia's pregnancy is known and the gang are returning to some semblance of normality. Plus the flashbacks were good; I particularly liked the rescue of the dog.

Ryan had a bad time of it this morning, so I eventually took him out of the playpen and held him whilst he cried and cried. However, I realised I could hear a second, fainter cry in the background. I looked up at Bea and saw that there were two tears slowly rolling down her cheeks. But she didn't seem to be crying out loud and she wasn't watching me; she was watching something else. I turned my head to investigate this new arrival - it was Emily with a bird in her mouth. The bird was doing the crying.

Throwing a cat (holding bird) out of the house whilst holding a howling baby is difficult, but not impossible. The cat door is now locked and I have no plans to change that anytime soon. Plus Ryan appears to be better now.

For some reason, I read that in your 'GM voice' and half expected you to follow up with "You're on three dice and have to make a risk test not to drop the baby" !

You don't need the three dice "to hit". It's all about making the appropriate hissy noise whilst rolling a dodge to stop the cat from dodging past you. You're right about the risk test not to drop the baby, though.

Do you think Emily has taken a shine to R&B, and simply wants to teach them the important things in life - like hunting for survival?
