Books
The Merlin Conspiracy - DWJ (her new hardback, a sequel to Deep Secret)
Seaward - Susan Cooper (author of The Dark is Rising)
King of Shadows - ditto

Games
Broken Sword - having played the second one, I wanted this (by the makers of Beneath a Steel Sky)
The Longest Journey
Gabriel Knight 3
Discworld Noir

Yep - the books are all for children and the games are all the ancient, five quid, adventure things. I'm very, very happy.

yay!

sounds like a packet of fun. i read more young adult books nowadays than grown-up books. grown-up books are boring and postmodern and crap like that. YA books have stories in them.

The Longest Journey is great -- have you never played it?

No - it's the one I started with (although admittedly after I failed to load Broken Sword). It's the most recent, the most expensive (a whole £6.38 compared to the other three being £4.25) and the one with extremely mixed reviews. I'm into the first ten minutes and enjoying it so far.

Been thinking about that game for a while. The one with the goth chick? Let me know how that turns out.

I didn't get *that* far into The Longest Journey (why oh why oh why do I now own a Mac instead of a machine I could do all the things I actually want to with?), but what I did see of it was all top-notch stuff.

If you can get it for under a tenner, do so, don't even hesitate.

You're welcome to borrow it when I've finished. So far - pretty good (but it's early days).

Ooo! Susan Cooper!

I loved her 'Dark is Rising' series. Is 'Seaward' a new book, a new series?

Nope. Written in 83. The other one was 99, though.
