Deliveries and ancient games

Over the last year, I have had very little luck with deliveries arriving on time.
chrestomancy finally got his Christmas present on Monday. However, the latter half of his birthday present (last year's I mean - 26th March 2002) is still on order (Master of Orion III).
bateleur's 30th birthday present (ordered on 4th November for 20th December) arrived this morning. Fortunately, he was very pleased with it (and its Athory design) and will probably put a photo of it on his LJ.
In contrast, the Argos order I put in on Monday evening arrived this lunchtime. We now have a new green kettle and a Humpty Dumpty. Admittedly, I would have preferred the purple "shape slot" elephant to the Humpty Dumpty, but they were out of stock. However, I am sure that another present excuse will soon arrive and the purple elephant can fill it. The twins like the Humpty Dumpty, anyway. Even if they haven't yet figured out how it works.
My spare time (when it exists) is devoted to slow story writing (the new book is progressing at less than a thousand words a day) and the playing of old/ancient computer games. Admittedly I no longer feel the urge to load up Master of Magic (I beat it a couple of years ago on the hardest difficulty level and, by chance, scored exactly 100% - most people get over or under) however any Final Fantasy game, Doom (1 and 2), Baldur's Gate 2 (although I admit that I find 1 too clunky to replay), Chaos Gate and pretty much anything else in our collection get constantly re-loaded. I am the average games seller's nightmare as I rarely feel the urge to buy anything new.
In other news, Beatrice decided that polystyrene was very tasty, so we bought her some rice cakes instead. Ryan has taken to emptying the bookcases whenever my back is turned and Emily decided that spring had arrived and is shedding fur everywhere.
And twin-dumping happens in ten days...

MOO III
If you're into abandonware games, I can't say enough FOR 'King's Bounty' ... the original Master of Magic I think. Also, though linear textual games have fallen out of favour, I still think 'Loom' is a great game for that design genre...a lot of fun unless you hate musical puzzles.

Re: MOO III
Come to think of it though, 'Loom' might be a bit more plodding as you try random spell combinations for each spell/spell challenge without the audio hint/boost.
Another Late Delivery
Date: 2003-02-19 12:05 pm (UTC)It strikes me that it might be a good idea for me to deliver it by hand - thus affording me a chance to meet Ryan and Bea for the first time. Otherwise they'll be all growed up before I ever do...
