Saturday was Monde day. Otherwise known as Swordsmaster without the Chrises (but with plenty of Mugs ?! I think that was the suggested group name).

The session started with a certain amount of shouting (Ryan-variety) and the bestowing of experience points. Dom decided to allow the players to choose their own advances, whilst giving them upper bounds (and telling them that max and near-max advances would have to be justified). This caused a certain amount of trouble as players tried to figure out what they were due.

Needless to say, the following session was then full of magic use and fighting (to be remembered for the next experience point bonanza). And some fate point loses. We jumped through the gate (minus Ghol - fortunately for Voaz) and discovered that we were on the moon. This was quickly followed by a second (and for Katako painful) discovery - that we couldn't get back the *normal* way with Moon Sorcery. Katako followed up her journey from hell with a quick look back at the world we had come from - it seemed that our current location mapped onto the border near the actual encirclement.

Lord Grasp (? if I heard the name correctly) wandered off and left us to it. We tried to find him again, but so far have not succeeded. Instead we found that the local inhabitants (starved, pale, human-like creatures) were not friendly. We then discovered we were within a place called the Faded City (I think) when a group of the Emperor's Guards (The Emperor of the Moon) tried to chain us up and take us to the Emperor's city to work as slaves. We escaped these lying jailors (who had been hunting a fugitive) with help from a new arrival (the fugitive - he had escaped slavery and stolen some food), who was a Squire of the Pure Path (oh dear !), and then tried to figure out what to do.

The Squire told us that the Emperor's City (or perhaps it was his Palace) was above us, so we started to go upwards. We had a short fight (which lasted only until their first moral check) with a number of people with clubs to get to the immediate next level - which appears to be the equivalent of the slums. Above them are the Orders (of which we learnt very little) and then the City/Palace.

At least on this next level we were pretty much left alone (in fact, the locals were scared of us well-armed sorts). We figured out that to get any higher up would mean a nasty fight with a large group from one of the Orders, so instead wandered the slums looking for information/food/pretty much anything. At the edges of the slums were a number of gates which had boats drifting in and out of the mists appearing to bring objects in. Our curiousity was further heightened when one of the Orders arrived with a message "We require the Sacred Skull of the Temple Galeen at location 417,88. There will be a substantial reward". (Huh ?)

So we cornered a local and offered him food in exchange for information. Turned out he had once been imprisoned by the Parliament of Prime and when he escaped from the jail he found himself up here instead of outside in Prime. He had been caught by the guards and then worked as a slave until he earned his freedom. The way, apparently, that the people manage to live in the slums is by salvaging items from buildings found out in the mist. These items are then exchanged with the various Orders for food and water (and clothes and other things).

He also told us that, even though the Emperor's guards enslave people, "we are all on the same side, really". Why ? Because everyone is trying to find the same thing - a way out. We are not entirely sure about this. He is, very likely, telling what he sees to be the truth; but we doubted that Lord Grasp was the only person wandering in and out with portals.

Anyway, he offered us loan of a boat; although informed us that to find co-ordinated locations (such as the Sacred Skull) we would need a Navigator (there are maps - but these are incredibly rare - instead the Navigators tend to be people who have memorised the maps after first seeing them). We agreed to the boat offer.

The boatman (despite his friend's assurances) was a little suspicious of us new arrivals, but did treat us to a quick tour of a nearby building which had been completely emptied, but still had a "weird" bit - a huge pool full of human skeletons. He also provided information to the effect that the problem with salvaging is that it is often dangerous - people are attacked by strange beings (I forget whether he said "Dreams" or "Images"). This did not upset us too much - we had much better weapons and armour than anyone else we had seen. So there was just a question of where to go.

A bit of Moon Sorcery later and we found a spangly new building. Complete with dangerous monsters, tapestries, embalmed bodies and a huge number of objects (scrolls ?) protected with rune magic. Our initial visit brought back the first half of the tapestries which we sold for a large amount of food and, more importantly, a map. Sigurne promptly took charge of the map and, consequently, the navigation (although she was sad to see the tapestries go - despite having already taking notes from them). Our second visit brought back the second set of tapestries (as yet unsold), but we left the rune-sealed items on the grounds that they were probably dangerous to remove. The combination of the two visits resulted in some nasty wounds and nastier fate point losses (primarily for Andreas, Sable and myself).

We are still trying to figure out what to do next. So far, no-one has actually brought the Sacred Skull back so, theoretically, we could go hunting for it (despite other groups having a three day lead). We want to get to the next level, but still have to figure out how.

Back in the real world, Ryan and Beatrice had their fourth hearing check (and, yes, they are only supposed to have had two). Ryan passed, finally, probably because they were nice and called him "a beautiful little boy". Beatrice ("what a cheerful little girl") failed, however, due to still being congested with a cold. So she has to go back again in six months time.

Oh, and Doom-wise, I have reached "The Spirit World" (level 28).

Thought so. I'm trying to be alert to mention of Images. 'Specially with our new friend wandering around likely to kill me in my sleep ;-)

Thanks for that - saved me the trouble.

And yes, you have Lord Grasp's name right.

Session gaps are too long - I keep forgetting stuff. And this week I took only the one note (the position of the skull). Hence the detailed write-up.

Teaching babies to talk is a good game - Bea distinctly said "beer" 4 or 5 times, after a few early attempts along the lines of "ba" and "buh".

But nobody else was paying attention. Which was probably just as well, since they might have stopped me if they were.

I don't know... might be worth it for the look on the speech therapist's face when I explain that she can't say "Yes" or "No" or "Milk" whilst she "Beer"s away quite happily.
