A cold, but not two
Jan. 24th, 2003 10:50 amRyan has caught a cold. Where from, I am not entirely sure; probably one of his Tesco fan club. This means that he has a runny nose, a hacking cough and his eyes are streaming. Plus he had trouble sleeping last night.
Fortunately Beatrice seems to have avoided it so far. Unfortunately, judging by the tone of her cough, this may not be for long. Her lungs have still not fully recovered from her early problems and this particular cold could be pretty nasty for her. Not to mention the fact that dealing with another sleepless baby could be very painful. And seriously detract from Buffy and Angel-watching.
Well, Beneath You was watchable enough, but I liked it a great deal less than Lessons. I would have preferred a bit more Willow and Giles; it really looked like a scene left over from last week that gave an excuse for neither of them to be back in Sunnydale. My other complaint with the episode was that once you got past the whole surprise that the Bad was all Anya's fault (which was a nice touch), there was very little storyline. Just a bit of boding (and, frankly, Babylon 5 is way better at boding) and a lot of angst about Spike's soul. I know I should be more touched by the Spike storyline, but I feel like we have been through all this before. Possibly I am just angsted-out.
Deep Down was rather better than Beneath You. It would have been better still had not Sky One included many spoilers in the first Buffy ad break. However, the Lilah scene (unspoilered) was beautifully done and left her character in a position that I thought she should have had at the start of the previous season. Additionally all the Wesley scenes were good (leaving questions open about his current views and motivations) and the interactions between Connor and Gunn/Fred were nicely plausible. I am liking the character of Fred more and more with each episode.
In other news, I am looking forward to my Sunday off. This is the day when I brave driving alone for the first time in several years. I used to drive all the time, often by myself, I now feel as though I am facing some sort of personal challenge - to get to Oxford alone !
Plus, a note for my Athory players, I have been working on the web pages. I hope to have them up later today.

Nah
The Buffy was particularly poor... it's no wonder that mundanes look down on fantasy stuff if this is all we get. Tremors (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0100814) did this monster much better and the chunks of grand plot were disjointed, predictable and tedious.
