New Year's Eve

After several weeks consideration I have finally bought myself a paid account Live Journal as a late Christmas present / New Year present. This means I might upload a few different caricatures to add to my existing one next year.
I decided not to have any New Year's resolutions, just a few cocktails instead. The twins are in bed and there are a couple of hours left before midnight, so plenty of time to drink too much.
Looking back, the main things of the year are the twins and the writing (certainly in that order). Much has already been said by me (particularly in my LJ account) about both of these already. However 2002 is also the first year I have not worked since graduating and it has been an interesting experience. On balance I think I have had less stress and more sleep, but far less control over my life and over my free time.
I originally planned to go back to work after my maternity leave ended (ie. November 28th 2002). Then, when we were worried about Bea developing a disability, this was changed to a career break ending on November 28th 2006. I still mean to stick to this revised plan, despite the change in Bea's diagnosis as it will allow me more writing time than the alternatives. However there is a very real possibility that 2003 will be the year that I crack and go back to the comparative freedom of working. Admittedly my evenings will still be twin-full, but at least my time at work (including journeys of reading and meeting friends at lunch) will be my own.
Another thing about 2002 is that it has been a year which started badly (twins in special care) and ended badly (house electrics up the creek and the demise of Scary - these combined to kick Fallen Star into 2003). The middle bit was pretty good and the bad stuff is pretty much over (I hope) but it still stands out for the cr*p at each end.
As for next year... more roleplaying, more writing and more twins.
Roleplaying - I want to run a number of one-offs. These will hopefully include a special nostalgic AD&D (2nd edition) dungeon bash and a "stupid preparation" game after watching Dom's one-off for Y2KCon (involved providing three detailed characters for each of three players - and took about a hundred hours of prep).
Writing - A second book and a (currently) secret project. The latter of these is an attempt to cure my writing style of a specific flaw.
Twins - The progression into the "Toddler" stage. Scary. But then, so was the baby stage.
Oh. And Martin is finally on LJ (hooray !).
