If you really have to cross the road in front of a line of cars as the lights turn to green, it's probably not a good idea to be wearing black from head to foot with your hood up.

This is actually the reason that my winter cardigan (for those days when even I think it's a bit nippy) is in light beige.

I don't think most pedestrians realise just how invisible they are.
