Last night's BBC 3 Heroes offering.
Details: Three main plotlines and Nathan's funeral this week.
Main plot one is Claire bodding about the Carnival and finally becoming suspicious of Samuel. Lydia sends her in with breakfast for him to show her Noah's files (although she doesn't say so). When Samuel goes to find a plant-grower, Claire evades sentry Eli (multiman) to investigate and finds a photo of Samuel and Joseph. Doyle catches her leaving and makes it clear that he does not want his new home destroyed. However, when Claire convinces him she's not going to do that, he sends her to Lydia. Lydia explains that Samuel killed Joseph without actually saying so. On Samuel's return he discovers Claire knows this but (appears?) to win her over again by showing her the plant-man transforming the chosen "home" valley into a more lush paradise. However, she does not stay with the Carnival, but leaves and then receives Noah and Peter's messages.
The second main plot is Hiro turning back up in Japan with his brain in a complete mess. However, Ando realises that Hiro is trying to tell him something important (and it becomes obvious that it's about Mohinder's new "home") and tries to figure it out - working out where Hiro wants them to go.
The third plot is Samuel showing up at Emma's and telling her he sent the cello; this is on the heels of her discovering she has not been accepted to take her second year of medical school. Initially suspicious, Emma eventually lets him in and helps him find plant-man. He explains that her ability is more than she thinks and that she can control things (emotions?) with music. He also explains she can summon people using music whilst thinking about them. He calls it "Siren Song". Emma summons plant-man for him and arranges to have him treated at the hospital (as he was homeless and had an infection). Samuel gives Emma a compass.
The end of the episode is Nathan's funeral which Peter, Angela, Noah and eventually Claire attend. Claire tells Noah she's keeping the compass.
General comments: I thought this episode was OK, but not brilliant. Too much was old for the audience (even if new for the Heroes). On attendance, it was the first episode this season without Sylar and the first in ages with Ando in it (Mohinder was in the cast list - we wondered if he had a scene cut).
Claire's plot mostly just took her to where the audience is. It's not clear how much she trusts Samuel as she both left and kept the compass. Hiro's plot is obviously the first stages of getting back Mohinder; with his brain tumour stepping up a notch. Emma's plot was the most interesting - more about her ability and a new hero.
However, I think that the highlight was Nathan's funeral. Peter's speech seemed very "Nathan" (in contrast to his speech a few episodes back when he says Nathan always arranged to take leave from the Navy for Peter's birthday; that was a little too generous IMO). The right people were there (well, except for Heidi and his sons) and it wasn't over-long.
Character by character:
Themes: Homes and families (including Lydia and her daughter Amanda).
Refer back moments: The funeral referenced Nathan's military career. I wonder if the plant-man is also a healer - he brings back memories of Linderman regrowing the flower in his basement/office.
Continuity errors and other weirds: So Samuel can be in several places at the same time, speak some Japanese, do a load of sign language and none of those are his actual power? Err, No! Bennett speaking Japanese is fair enough, because of the nature of his job (and working for Kaito) - but Samuel's got no reason to learn either Japanese or sign.

Character by character:
- Claire - Whilst the character is now being more competent and generally less trusting of Samuel, the plot Is Still Dull. This is because the plot still isn't news to the audience.
- Noah - Funeral appearance and that's it.
- Samuel - Still too god-like and all over the place; he's been in and out of everyone else's life whilst still looking after the Carnival.
- Peter - Liked his speech at the funeral.
- Angela - Funeral attendance only.
- Emma - I wondered if the medical school rejection was Samuel's doing. Interesting to see her power explained and expanded somewhat.
- Hiro - I suspect that the writers loved doing his lines, coming up with ways of conveying information through geeking.
- Ando - Good to see him again; plus he had some great lines: "I can't believe that I know that" (about the X-Men training room).
Themes: Homes and families (including Lydia and her daughter Amanda).
