A briefish review.

Summary (mostly a list of where everyone's got to): Present Peter is back from the future (and in Sylar's cell). Sylar has done one job for the Company with Bennet and failed to contain his hunger for powers. Hiro and Ando have dug up Adam. Claire's real mum has shown up. Claire can't feel pain (but has gone off to a cheerleaders retreat anyway). Matt has painted the future and found a tortoise spirit guide. Mohinder's power has gone wrong, but he hasn't told Maya. Maya has no plot. Molly and Micah are mainly absent. Nathan and Tracey have shared knowledge of abilities (and there's a romance in the offing). Tracey knows she's one of triplets. Elle has been fired. Daphne has the whole formula. The Haitian is stomping around the Company doing Angela's bidding. No idea if Monica's around.

General comments: I like the current plot pace; there's far more happening than in season two. I also like that they didn't try to continue the same sort of threads as were in two. I don't like the continuity errors and the general obviousness that they've lost track of many of their original ideas and workings.

Continuity errors: Aagh! The end of season two implied that Nathan's assassin rang Angela - err, no, that guy really wouldn't have done. The end of season two had Bennet back working for the Company, but he's back in a cell at the start of three. The way that powers work and are detected simply doesn't fit with season one. Peter collecting Sylar's original power only with his permission seems at odds with the way he picked up everything else. Whatever happened to Jessica (the sister I mean) if Niki is a triplet with Tracey and Baba (whoever Baba is)? And that's just off the top of my head. Oh, and how on earth can future Peter put present Peter inside someone else - I'd like to think they have an explanation, but feel I will be sadly disappointed.

Good/OK things:
- The identity of Nathan's assassin.
- That Niki did indeed die.
- How they brought Ali Larter back.
- Nathan's return to politics (even if I can't take Sheridan seriously).
- Hiro/Ando.
- Matt (pity there wasn't more). Particularly that he solved the assassination.
- The tortoise.
- That there is more Angela.
- Bob's death (yay!)
- That Hiro inherited the Japanese company.
- The villains "hold up and waiting for the Company to arrive" scenes.
- After thinking about it, Nathan/Tracey. It makes more sense than most Heroes romances.

Bad/less OK things:
- Sylar's new family; sorry, but Darth Vader did it better.
- Mohinder/Maya.
- Mohinder being so stupid as to inject himself.
- The Angela/Future Peter exchanges just didn't seem plausible based on both their characters.
- That Bennet would be able to hire Claire's real mother to help.
- Sylar going morally grey/white.
- Adam's resurrection (it was such a fitting ending to him as well).
- Extremely overpowered Sylar and Peter.
- That Peter has "the hunger" (there were predictions from our sofa of much angst, akin to Angel's stuff once the Wheldonverse writers got obsessed with pain and redemption).
- Too much power re-use (yet another guy who paints the future?)
- Maya's total lack of plot.
- Matt/Daphne. I mean, huh?

In general, I have very mixed feelings about it. But it's still better than pretty much anything else I might be watching.

Two more continunity errors for your collection:

* Mohinder's father manages to track down numerous heroes via their genetic codes. Therefore he is right that it's genetic and Mohinder knows this perfectly well.

* Sylar's power enables him to deduce that he cannot kill Claire, but in at least one timeline he does kill Claire ("Save the Cheerleader, Save the World").

whoever Baba is

I think it's "Barbara"?

It is. But I think that was the short form the doctor used.

You thought the way they kept ALi Larter was OK?

Niki's dead - fortunately we've got an identical twin for you!

And why can't they think of a new bad guy three seasons in?

Well, it is the sort of thing that the Company would do. And the Niki plot was pretty finished in my view - so miraculously saving her would have been a mistake.

And why can't they think of a new bad guy three seasons in?

I agree. Although, I'm now a couple of episodes further on and will be posting again soon.

Indeed. I believe I was complaining about this very thing back i one of those posts I wrote before you'd started season 3. I'm sure we saw a grave for Jessica, I remember doing the maths on the birth and death date.

Daphne makes me want to stick my head in a blender. Why? Why did they do it?

I've got your posts saved somewhere and will be tackling the "Villains" one just as soon as I finish episode 13 (I'll let you know if I post, so you can go read).

No, I'm not big on Daphne either.
