Heroes episode 24 (episode 1 of season 2). Having done this for season 1, I thought I would continue.

This episode is longer than the standard (I thought it was, so I checked and it's 51 minutes compared to the usual 42ish).

Summary: The Bennet family have moved to California and settled under the name of Butler. Claire has two main issues at her new school - firstly, she's now an outsider (and came into conflict with the cheerleaders there) and secondly, she's come to the attention of West, a curious classmate. Later in the episode, although not in front of Claire, it becomes obvious that West can fly. Matt and Mohinder are taking care of Molly. Matt has passed his detective exam (although, using his powers which Molly calls "cheating") and Molly is suffering nightmares due to the man who can "see" her. Mohinder is giving lectures about the Heroes and the disease which only they can suffer from. He is found by a new member of the Company (Bob) who offers him a job. It then transpires that this was a set-up arranged by himself and Noah to get him inside the Company. Noah himself is working in a worse job and being bullied by his manager, but Noah settles this before the episode is out. Twins Maya and Alejandro Herrera are introduced in this episode running from the Mexico authorities on murder charges. It becomes clear that one or both of them are capable of a power causing mass murder which manifests as black liquid coming from the eyes. Hiro discover that the man under attack from the bandits is his hero, Takezo Kensei. Hiro saves the man, only to discover that he is a plant and the real Takezo Kensei is no more than a bandit himself and also English rather than Japanese. Hiro also discovers, with the appearance of the swordsmith's daughter, that he is in the midst of the events detailed in the stories his father read to him and tries to turn Takezo Kensei into the hero of his stories. So far, no success. Hiro's father (Kaito) and Ando are in New York waiting for Hiro to return, when Kaito receives a torn picture of himself with a red helix scrawled on it. He tells Ando this means he will die in 24 hours. They go to the Deveaux rooftop where Ando convinces Kaito to fight, so he sends Ando for a sword just as Angela Petrelli arrives. Angela has also received a similar picture; they compare and Kaito says that this follows the deaths of Deveaux, Petrelli senior and Linderman (although, up until now, there has been no suggestion that either Deveaux or Petrelli senior were murdered and we know how Linderman died) and that one of "the nine still alive" must be responsible. Ando returns in the nighttime just in time to witness Kaito attacked and thrown over the building by a hooded figure. Before his death, Kaito tells the figure that, of all the possible people, he thought them the least likely. Nathan appears to be living in Peter's old apartment, he comes home drunk to find his mother packing and saying they need to move on from Peter's death. She says this is Nathan's fault as he did not stick to the plan. Nathan refuses to agree that Peter is dead and throws her out saying she is evil. Later, he receives a phone call from Claire whilst he is in a bar. She too misses Peter and wants someone to talk to about how she is hiding who she is. Nathan tells her he can't help her and hangs up. He then looks in a mirror and sees his face disfigured (by the nuclear blast?), then looks again and is OK. The episode ends in Ireland, a trio of smugglers are hunting an IPod shipment and instead find Peter handcuffed half-naked inside the crate with no apparent memory of who he is.

Comments: A pretty good episode in general. It does a good job of explaining where everyone has got to without totally stalling on the plot. The nice new stuff are the murder plot, the plague, Matt and Mohinder looking after Molly, Mohinder and Bennet's team-up and Nathan's two-face issue. At this stage, I had reservations about the twins. I also didn't like the history stuff for reasons I'll go into below. Three moments that made me cheer - Matt finally making detective (I didn't care he'd cheated!), Mohinder revealing his team-up with Bennet and Bennet dealing with his boss.

Cast list absences: Niki, Micah, DL, Sylar, plus any new characters yet to be introduced (other than Takezo Kensei, West, Bob and the twins). Only a brief appearance from Peter.

Continuity issues raised: This section is new, because I know I'll need it later. Also, it'll grow bigger as the season goes on because continuity issues will be spotted in the later episode, not the earlier. The main thing at the moment is that the deaths of Deveaux and Petrelli senior are now being shown as possible murders which seems strange; however, it isn't a big deal as such (in part because this is Kaito's belief rather than fact). (There was a bigger issue in the deleted scenes on the DVD which showed Nathan saying that he first developed flying years ago - I hope it was cut because someone realised it was a continuity error rather than for other reasons!).

Claire: Interesting to throw her back into the set-up of season one, but from a different angle. High School, but but no cheerleading or old friends.

West: I didn't really like him from the start. He's a less attractive character than Zack (who he effectively replaces) and his ability isn't even new.

Mr Bennet/Bennet family: Nice to see he's still aiming at the company. Also that he's stayed in paper. I liked seeing the family again, to see he got them back (also a triumph) and that they seem OK.

Matt/Molly: A good Matt episode, I particularly liked that he and Mohinder are now jointly raising Molly. However, what happened with his wife? Also, the other big question is who is the nightmare man going to turn out to be?

Ando/Hiro's father: Some good stuff here, they make a decent pairing. Also, right at the start of the scene in Kirby Plaza, I didn't recognise Nathan when I first watched it (I did the second time!). Pity about Kaito's death - I really liked him.

Hiro/Takezo Kensei: I don't like the historical stuff, even here, and I think it's because having Takezo Kensei as an Englishman doesn't work. It's simply one suspension of disbelief too far. The non-hero part fine - the English bit just makes me struggle to believe this was 17th century Japan, particularly as the fact wasn't recorded anywhere (even if him being English was theoretically possible).

Mohinder/Bob: A rare episode of Mohinder having the upper hand - may there be more! Two plots for the season from him - firstly, what are his and Bennet's plans, and secondly, what's happened with this plague? Bob confirms what we believed about the Company although he raises the question - how bad does a Hero have to be to be killed (Sylar was supposed to be kept alive in season one, although, I guess his own power theft was being investigated)? Oh, and Bob can turn things to gold - that's a definite bonus.

Nathan: I loved the two-face aspect. Also the question arises as to how he lost his wife and kids. He appears to have had a complete character change (although, this was slightly forecast in 0.07% when he tells Peter that much of who he is comes from Peter's support).

Angela: The notable dialogue of the episode was from Kaito to Angela. He tells her that, for redemption, he tried to help Hiro with his quest to save the world and asks what she did for her son. The answer is, of course, nothing - the assumption being that this is Peter we're talking about - and that she now believes him dead. The big issues are are the twelve people (of whom nine are left) and whether Angela will also be killed.

Peter: Brief, but confirmed he was still alive. Not that the viewers would believe otherwise, I feel! The issue - why has he lost his memory? Was is a side effect of completely exploding?

Twins: The power looks interesting, but not much else is clear at this stage.

and instead find Peter handcuffed half-naked inside the crate

One of the best moments of the series. :) Shame they let him get all tidy and comfortable again later.

One of my co-workers commented that season two was most memorable for that as well. You both have a point.
