Episode 16. I love this episode - it's one of my favourites of season one; it's where the plot starts to move really fast.

Summary: Ted is found in the desert by Hannah - another Hero who can manipulate waves. She convinces him to go after the company in revenge and, together, they contact Matt and then head to the Bennett house. Claire's mother recovers from her temporary memory loss (at the end of the previous episode) only to collapse. In hospital, Claire fails to convince the staff that a man taking memories is responsible and has a huge row with her father when he arrives. They are able to take Sandra home in the morning, arrive back at the house where Mr Bennett and Claire are set for another huge row when Ted and Matt appear, armed. Hiro is let out of the store cupboard and joins forces with the person who let him out - a man on Hope's trail for gaming fraud who is also her former partner. The two catch up with Hope and Ando, Hope pointing a gun at her companion, and then the man and Hope had a huge gun fight. Hiro and Ando hide then, when Hope finds them, Hiro uses his powers to reverse the bullet she fires back into the gun. After the police arrive, Hiro tells Ando that they will part company - too many people have died and Hiro does not want Ando to join them. Simone is still asking Isaac to find Peter and realises he is lying to her about Peter's location. She also goes to see Nathan and suggests that he publicise the truth about Peter's abilities, condition and disappearance. Peter, meanwhile, is advancing in his training, producing telekinesis for the first time (from Sylar). However their regime is interrupted by Mr Bennett and the Haitian who have been told about Peter by Isaac. The new arrivals attempt to stun Claude and Peter, but Peter's abilities (time stop, telekinesis and flying) save them. However Claude is furious about their arrival and, after telling Peter about the company and the marks it puts on its victims, leaves in fear and disgust. Peter then hunts down Isaac, who Claude has correctly deduced must be responsible, and the two fight. Isaac draws a gun on Peter making the latter vanish. During the resulting confused argument, Isaac eventually spots a target and fires - only to kill Simone. Mohinder and Sylar (Zane) find Dale, another Hero with super-hearing. She eventually agrees to be tested in the morning, only for Sylar to murder her in the night and take her ability.

Comments: A lovely, fast episode with a couple of major twists - Simone's death, Ted's reappearance thirsting for revenge, Also a number of welcome, minor developments; Peter finally getting a handle on some of his abilities, Hiro and Ando separating, Sylar's new ability and Sandra's collapse. This is the point in the series which, to my mind, suddenly has the plot shooting forward (although it pauses again before the end). Lovely to see Mr Bennett on the receiving end of the treatment he consistently dishes out as well. I suspect I also like this episode because of the plot strands that are absent.

Cast list absences: No Niki, DL or Micah. Very brief glimpses of Nathan.

Hiro/Ando: The conversation between Hiro and the man in the car about partners is rather grim; although Hiro's conclusion about not wanting Ando killed is less cynical. Also, Hiro being able to reverse just the bullet rather than the whole scene is a new development (I think).

Sylar/Mohinder: Oh dear. The nice thing here, to my mind, was that Sylar's new ability made him vulnerable - I can but hope that he eventually takes on a new one at a time when someone else can take advantage of this. Also - please let Mohinder work it out soon.

Sandra/Mr Bennett/Claire: I really felt for Claire here; the only person who hasn't been lying to her is collapsing in front of her. Also, I wonder whether Mr Bennett would have gone the Haitian route with her if he hadn't got home to find a couple of enraged Heroes.

Peter/Isaac/Simone/Nathan: Well, this particular triangle is now permanently unresolved. My sympathies in the final scene were with Peter - as her split with Isaac did indeed have nothing to do with him. Got to feel for Isaac, though, his entire plot line Just Really Sucks. Amusing exchange between Nathan and Simone - they're trying to do the same thing from completely different ends. Finally, yes, Simone really should have given the key back or at least stopped using it.

Peter/Claude/Mr Bennett/Haitian: Lots of interesting questions raised here - what's Claude's background? Also, how would his interactions with Peter have evolved if Bennett hadn't found them? Have the Haitian and Claude met before? And, finally, why didn't the Haitian work on Peter - was he too far away? Or was it similar to the early episode with Nathan - that the Haitian seems less able to block flying (or, perhaps, just unprepared!).

Matt/Janice/Ted/Hannah: As unstable abilities go, Ted's is definitely a winner. Even after much practice in the desert he still stands at his wife's grave and nukes the flowers and the grass. Hannah is interesting - is she also in the Bennett house? If not, where did she go? Janice is starting to show signs of strain around Matt after finding the diamonds, although she puts that down to the lying and stealing. Matt himself doesn't seem to be able to get over the diamonds, he now appears to regret stealing them.
