I've found it difficult to do anything I really didn't have to do this week due to having a cold. Work has been busy, but not particularly stressful, and I've spent most of my evenings reading because I've not felt up to much else. The reading material has been Cloud Atlas (which I thought was great but, perhaps because the book is split over so many main characters, I didn't quite love), The Veiled Kingdom (which is a book club book, so I'll say nothing about it now) and Quite Ugly One Morning (which I'll comment on after our book club on One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night).

Fortunately, by yesterday, I was feeling rather better. My day was spent at a conference on Public Sector Productivity so, as is usual with me and conferences, I found that watching the presentations meant I kept coming up with roleplaying ideas (:-)). It was actually a pretty good day, although the talks were often of half-finished projects and the main conclusions were usually that it's a real pain in the neck to measure productivity in the public sector (which is hardly surprising). It also appeared, quite understandably, to be a pain to present papers in a room where the speakers are broken and the blinds are up so that no-one can see your slides; I felt acutely sorry for all the speakers. On a brighter note, the coffee was good, the lunch was excellent and it finished with wine, orange juice and hor d'ourves. Yesterday was also the first day I bumped into [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin at the station; he and I now follow the same journey to work (train from Feltham to Vauxhall, walk to Pimlico area).

Yesterday also brought [livejournal.com profile] killalla to visit the duo and [livejournal.com profile] bateleur. She brought books (Bea: "I love Hello Kitty!"), sweets (which Bea ate and Ryan played with) and a box of Fimble cake mix. Consequently today included the baking of vanilla cakes with green icing and "fimble" sprinkles. They're very edible.

Apart from the baking, I've spent the day sleeping in, then sorting through my ICESP stuff and plugging the gaps. Hopefully, all the gaps. Tomorrow is the first session and I want it to go really well.
