On Sunday Martin, Frances and myself played Lord of the Rings (for those who know the game - from square 12 with the Friends and Foes expansion). We played and lost twice. We blamed Warlock for our defeat - 'cos he never returned Martin's generous request (to his mobile's answering machine) to come along and play the second interchangeable hobbit (ie. Merry).

I then played against Martin's all-female Yu-Gi-Oh! deck. I pretty much wiped the floor with him (he lost whilst I had 7,950 life points - ie. a mere 50 down). This was partly because he has an appalling start whilst I had a good start (eg. Rageki) but mainly because he really doesn't have enough good female cards to warrant playing a female deck yet. I reckon he needs at least another ten booster decks.

The twins meanwhile were being spoilt by their grandparents and were both wearing well-fed, smug expressions on my return. (Actually they were wearing sleepy expressions, 'cos they were in bed - but you get the idea). And Dom was happy 'cos he had managed to get more FastRam : Project Top Secret done.

Also - Frances bought me pizza and chocolate fudge cake so, all round, Sunday was a great day.

My prime gripe with the LOTR board game is that when things go badly wrong you find yourself doomed for the rest of the game. Do you find the same, or am I missing an obvious get out mechanism?
