The Tarot series is, sadly, discontinued and therefore is not described on the BPAL site.
The High Priestess
A review1 I found reads: "Sharp and sweet at the same time, when first out of the bottle - pine and a sharp, astringent note quickly move forward. The bright, astringent note, which I can't identify, is pleasing and yet causes unease at the same time. Almost metallic as it dries down.
This stays crisp and, for lack of a better term - bright. In fact, this scent resonates and really shines out from its spot on my arm, and if I close my eyes, get close, and just breathe in and out for a minute, I'm practically floating here in my chair.
Disconnected and otherworldly in itself, but a connector by its nature."
Another one says: "This smells like Christmas to me. Sweet minty pine... Unfortunately, the cherry quickly overpowers everything else, and i end up smelling like I washed with pinesol then dowsed myself in cherry slurpee. The drydown is simply sweet cherry."
In the bottle: This is incredibly familiar, but I can't name it. What is it?
On the skin: Same again - I like and I can't name. Maybe it's that whole pine-Xmas thing that the reviews all mention?
An hour later: Definitely a keeper. Not least until I can name that smell.
The World
A review1 I found reads: "This is an incredibly complex scent that manages to balance notes I didn't realize could be balanced. Sandalwood, cinnamon, running water, lemon, eucalyptus - these are just the start of the components in the World. This is earthy, airy, warm, and crisp all at the same time.
This strikes me as the ultimate no-category scent, because it's all categories at once. I'll wear this on a regular basis because it's compelling and ethereal while still being grounded, but also because it's a scent that fits any mood on any day, in any season and for any occasion."
Another one says: "This scent was so uplifting ang cheering for me. When I first put it on, it smelled very sweet, almost with a light sugar note tying light fruit, floral and wood scents together. I think I smell some jasmine, a sweeter type of sandalwood and maybe a light plum. The scent deepened after a while, smelling less sweet and more warm. Like the feel of warm sunshine on bare skin.
The feelings I get from this scent are of relief and joy. That a clear, warm, sunny day after weeks of horrible storms. That serene, but happy feeling that you get when you are reminded that life does go on and everything will be okay after all."
In the bottle: Hospitals.
On the skin:
bateleur concurs, this is definitely the disinfectant smell of hospital corridors. OK, there's a bit of a sweet perfume undertone, but not enough to salvage the situation.
An hour later: Actually, I forgot to sniff again. However, any smell that goes on as disinfectant isn't for me. Maybe it'd be better on someone else - certainly most of the reviews I read raved about it.
Justice
A review1 I found reads: "Goes on sticky-sweet with a fizzy sort of undertone, and quickly backs down into a barely herbal, warm and woody blend that retains some sense of the effervescence without it actually being a defineable note.
A hint of moss, plenty of rosewood, and maybe a touch of amber? Solid like a huge old oak with new leaves coming out in spring, and very balanced."
Another one says: "This does have a bit of floral, a bit of wood, a bit of resin, but the best way I can describe it is - balanced."
In the bottle: This smells... familiar.
On the skin: This reminds me of a smoky room. A room where a bunch of people have been smoking, but no-one is at the moment. However it doesn't smell of cigarettes, so I don't know why I get this impression. Maybe it's close to the scent of someone I know who smoked?
bateleur can't smell it at all, which is odd. OK, it's less strong than some, but not that faint.
An hour later: Hmm. Not too bad at this point. I definitely get a wood-smoke and amber feel from this one. I'd say it's on the faint side though.
1 Note: I tend to put BPAL on before I hunt reviews.
