Thanks to everyone for the alternative names for Boxes. I've now successfully found the wikipedia entry I was looking for.

Apparently the game goes by a large number of names: Dots and Boxes, Boxes, Squares, Paddocks, Square-it, Dots and Dashes, Dots, or, simply, the Dot Game.
