Rudolf? Or perhaps it's some other reindeer with a red nose.

I've discovered today that a little bit of housework improves my day. Probably because I'm much too easily impressed with myself for actually doing it. The piece in question was the bathroom floor. Now, our bathroom is about as small as it could possibly be to reasonably accommodate a toilet, a washbasin and a bath. But I still feel undeniably smug about having vacuumed and washed that segment of floor space.

In other news, fish cakes appear to be the new favourite in toddler circles (although Bea spent the whole meal saying "I don't like it" before licking her dish clean). This is more than can be said for Xmas pudding. Yesterday's tea was accompanied by the distressing sounds of unhappy toddlers as [livejournal.com profile] bateleur tried to persuade them that the aforementioned pudding was really good stuff. He failed. Not even Beatrice "chilli cheese" Katrin would touch more than the custard. Oh well, at least I can warn my mother before she tries to do the same thing on Christmas Day.

I guess I'd better do some writing before the duo get back downstairs.

Saturday's was a figure on some sort of carved frieze. He looks vaguely mythological, but I've no idea who he is. Sunday was a bit of a Byzantine painting - either he's a saint, or the circle that's mostly visible behind his head is part of the decor. And today, more Murano glass - blue and green vases this time. Bo-oring!

Next year, remind me to get an advent calendar with better pictures behind the windows ;-)

Next year, we should all make advent calendars and pass them one place round the circle :)

Oooh! Good plan! Count me in!

(I feel compelled to note for general information that the increase in the number of exclamation marks I've been using over the last few months is entirely [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel's fault, and no one is to blame me for it.)

All right :)

I'll try and maintain this idea in my consiousness till next year, and will advertise it sometime like the beginning of November and see how many people we can rope in :)

Does that mean you have spare Christmas pudding?

It means that [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I have been eating it. What a hardship. Not.

Ah well, worth a try.

Today, I have a shepherd. Hopefully, this signifies the end of the animals-staring-at-stars series.

Interestingly (or not), the king in the full-size picture has a red robe with a purple cloak. The little kind behind the door has a purple robe with a red cloak. The big shepherd and the little shepherd have a similar reversal thing going on with an orange (or green) robe and a green (or orange) surcoat.

It's as though someone arty was given fairly specific instructions on what your calendar should include. They've dealt with the tedium of the standard stuff by sticking in these little details.

You may be right. As well as the robin being inside the cat, someone pointed out this morning that one window has opened in such a way that the little king has the legs of a cockerel :)

We had variously considered that it was a satanic calendar, a pagan calendar or a low-budget calendar - but actually, "bored artist" is possibly the best explanation so far.

I see your "bored artist" and raise you an "arcane symbolism".

The Rosicrucians are sending secret messages via advent calendars !
