Another toy. Or perhaps it's a reference to ten (twelve) drummers drumming.

Today Ryan failed to molest the Xmas tree. Perhaps he's ill. Or perhaps it's because he was out for most of the morning at Mother and Toddler group. Or perhaps he's trying to give me a false sense of security so that I put the four delicate decorations back on it. We'll see.

In other news, having got over the joy of speaking to [livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy on the phone earlier this week, I realise that I really, really miss him. For as far back as I can remember, he's always been around. He went to the same sixth form and the same university (although, because of the three year age gap, not at the same time). He used to come up from Cambridge and visit me when I was in hall (I remember him and [livejournal.com profile] dr_bob sleeping on my tiny bedroom floor once), he used to come down from Nottingham to visit me when I lived in London. We both moved to Oxford at the same time. We moved to the London/Oxford weekend commute at pretty much the same time. And then we moved to West London, again, at more or less the same time. Whenever I've been upset or cross or bursting with some good news I've been able to ring up or pop around and see him. Now he's on the other side of the Atlantic, I can't. And, with their plans to stay out of the country until October, I'm going to have to get used to it.

I've got a camel today. A slightly sarcastic colleague asked if it was a "Christmas camel", but I think it's allowable for being a genuine mode of magi-transport.

Missing people is difficult :(

For some reason (probably the answers to [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin's sheep), I thought you meant a cooked one.

Missing people is difficult :(

Yeah. It's probably good for me to get used to it. But then, I don't like all the things that are good for me.

I'm not sure it's necessarily good for you to get used to it. Just that it's something that'll happen for a while, and will eventually go away. I think now's probably about the time to say something sickening about enduring it with fortitude. Possibly enduring it with fortitude five, which means that you can take on TheHattedOne with impunity when she returns ;)

I have the top of the campanile of St Mark. I'm aware that that's a ridiculous mixture of Italian and English, but I like the word campanile much better than 'bell tower', and adding 'di San Marco' somehow sounds too pretentious ;-)

I hadn't quite realised the extent to which you and [livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy have followed each other around the country - the obvious solution to you missing him seems to be to follow him! Much sympathy, though. And remember that lots of your friends (including me) are available for random phone calls, for any small consolation that may offer.

For God's sakes don't let Impunity get involved! I've heard the stories...

<grin>

Probably because much of it happened before you knew either of us. It's pretty impressive, actually. In my defense, being the oldest, he's mostly followed me places!

And remember that lots of your friends (including me) are available for random phone calls

Thanks. I may take you up on that.

And me, always...

I miss TheHattedOne like crazy. :( But people do go away, and come back, and go away again. Nowadays I just cross my fingers and hope they won't all do it at the same time.

I think "campanile of San Marco" would be perfectly acceptable. It isn't St. Mark's bell tower (at least, not personally), it's the bell tower of a foreign place which can quite legitimately be referred to by its foreign name.

It's statements like that which make me realise how White Wolf have changed my understanding of English.

You're probably confusing fortitude with Fortitude. Anything interesting in White Wolf is capitalised. Along with a number of boring things.

That still holds the record for the hardest floor I've ever (not) slept on!!
