lathany: (Ill)

I'm ill. Nothing remotely serious, I just have a cold. My head's spent the last couple of days feeling overstuffed with cotton wool and my body can't decide whether I'm too hot or too cold. On the plus side, it seems to be on its (not "it's" - right?) way out. Unfortunately, this has meant the duo missing out on mother and toddler groups both yesterday and today. However they will be at playgroup tomorrow.

As ever, my recent life has revolved around childcare. There's been a bit of writing, a character designed for [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's The Wheel; there will soon be some planning of my new game (which has a name - "The Hunt") and there's also been rather a lot of replaying Final Fantasy VI (I saved Shadow this time around!). However I've mostly been surviving as a stay-at-home Mum (and have the bruises to show for the increased violence this involves soaking) and enjoying the additional peaceful four hours a week that playgroup gives me.

Whilst stuck in the house, I've been enjoying the Liberal Democrat conference season. With the incredibly depressing (and growing) possibility of Bush getting a second term it's nice to look at reports suggesting that there's a good chance they'll be the opposition next time around. Particularly amusing were the conflicting panic attacks from The Mirror ("Orange Tories") and The Sun (Spineless Reptile that Spits Venom or Poisonous Snake) - apologies for no direct links to headlines. Plus I applaud Charles Kennedy for not launching personal attacks as part of his speech.

Rather earlier that the next election I have other Good Things (TM) planned. Tonight features an appearance by [livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy for Gauntlet : Dark Legacy. Saturday will bring a rare visit from [livejournal.com profile] zandev; I'm currently a little hazy on all the details, but this should include relaunching Patchwork Universe on the all-new singing and dancing heffalumps server (Hurrah!). The weekend after [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I will be twin dumping and disappearing off to a hotel for a couple of days (with champagne! and a four poster!). There's also a first visit from [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel who has never seen our house or the twins (and from [livejournal.com profile] ao_lai who has)... just as soon as I send out an email. Then in November there will be duplicate Bridge (OK, I find that exciting). Plus I'm still waiting for my photos from [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan and [livejournal.com profile] triskellian's wedding to come back (yep, I find expected photos exciting too - before I discover I've put my finger over the lens for half of them).

And, finally, it appears that [livejournal.com profile] cuthbertcross is setting a fashion in medical circles.

that is something that puts me off the idea of a digital camera

Note that there's nothing to stop you taking photos with a digital camera, and sending them off online to be printed and sent back to you, without looking at the digital versions until the prints have arrived.

Indeed. But there's also nothing to stop me doing exactly that with my current camera, but missing out the intervening spending-hundreds-of-quids-on-a-new-toy stage :)

Besides, doing that with a digital camera is just, well, not quite right, really. It's not exactly Wrong, mind, but not entirely Right.
