Reeve gatecrashed a meeting with my manager's manager on Friday. However, she's a cat lover. She told me he was lovely. Reeve preened himself and gave me a look - "See, I'm lovely! You don't appreciate me enough."

However, no-one gets bitten over a Zoom call, so I think I have the more objective viewpoint.

My review of Speed Dating for Ghosts (an Xmas present from Martin) was accepted by GameFAQs. Short version: As titled, short and interesting.

Food

I've been cooking roughly once a week for a while. Because Dom is the main cook, I tend to do what I feel like and have something of a tendency to cook comfort food. Tonights was Shepherd's Pie. Earlier this month I made apple crumble and (jointly with Bea) stuffed peppers. Next week maybe I'll do Jambalaya, I have an easy receipe for it.

A friend of mine from my previous role left the civil service today. Her leaving email made me smile, so I thought I'd share it. Also - all leaving gift vouchers should be spent this way.

Dear all

Well I can finally say I am going after what must have been the longest notice period know to man or woman.

I have really enjoyed my time at OME. A fascinating role with the AFPRB. I have been on some amazing visits to military bases, wearing inappropriate, but if I might be so bold, stunning shoes. I have managed to navigate my way around Navy war ships and speed boats, a tank and a medical RAF transport plane in these shoes, no mean feat (feet). All very exciting. I have worked with some lovely people (and Neil). I’ve enjoyed doughnut Fridays with Anne (who I am going to miss terribly). I hope to be allowed pop back in to say a proper farewell as and when we can all meet up face to face.

So, thank you all for your kind works in my leaving card, I am not 60 despite Neil’s comments!! I am really very touched. I will spend my voucher on something beautifully impractical.

Best wishes to you all

Snow

We had a weather warning. Reeve sounded off loudly, running from window sill to window sill. He was looking for a view without all that awful white stuff landing in his toilet. He was disappointed.

Bea and I went for a walk. It was rather slow going and rather less pretty than some people's posts. But there was snow. (And people out enjoying the snow - not pictured.)

Orion

One thing I rarely see in Ashford is the stars. However, tonight it's dark and Orion (and the dog star) are clearly visible even from our road. I hadn't realised how much I missed star gazing until I spotted them.

The first day of lockdown seems fitting for a job I dislike - taking down the Christmas decorations. I've left the holly as it's a winter months thing for us rather than Christmas (we've had some in a vase since early November), but everything else is gone.

Holly

I was disproportionately pleased today to discover that the holly tree still has plenty of red berries. This meant I could replace the slightly withered display on the table with a new one.
