Jan. 21st, 2004 01:34 pmAngel episode 2.
This episode title should really have had "Spike" in it, because that is what it was all about (it does refer to him, but - in my view - something less subtle would have been more accurate). On the one hand - he dominated most of the scenes he was in, on the other - this was because he was given all the comic lines. In contrast, Lorne and Gunn barely had a sentence between them.
I liked the idea of bringing him back as a ghost and I find the related plot intriguing. And, with the absence of Cordy, Fred appears to be the centre of the romantic-plot universe (which makes me wonder if Eve has been brought in to balance this).
What about the rest ? I like the "monster of the week" format. I found the Buffy season plots tended to work better when the writers had to fit them around a weekly episode. Probably because they tend to use too much time and space to make relatively simple points. Details-wise ? The spoon was OK, the double-cross and the "client" were eminently guessable.
As for next week - I'd like to see the rest of the cast get a look in.
