lathany: (Invading)

Sunday was the first Athory (Swordsmaster) game of the New Year. I have been updating the Athory map and, at some point, will put it up on the web site along with the amended Duchy pages (a destroyed city here, an assassinated Duke there). In the meantime, however, the players got to see it at the session.

The entire session was spent in the Chir Shrine Palace where the party wrestled with many problems from the Lirrisorn sinkings to the various military factions. Whilst the sinkings were considered more important, the party did not know how to solve them. The army factions were easier to deal with because the Dukes and Duchesses could be talked to (and shouted at).

The Lathanians' day began with an invitation from Duke Fulton :

For the attention of Lady Bryanna of Ibren Heights
and Lord Roland of Glatheren :

You are invited to visit the Lonely Castle
when the Duke returns to his lands

Duke Fulton of the Arc

They consequently discovered that a meeting was in progress in the throne room. Fulton had also sent a messenger to Duchess Louise offering assistance. His army was poised to attack Kelitire of the Oak as soon as Louise confirmed that his help was still wanted. He also informed her (through his Priestess Laundith) that Duchess Inanna of Stones was unwilling to help and the recently appointed Duke Regis of the Moon was too new to grasp the enormity of the situation. Louise considered the options and decided to confirm that his help was wanted.

The party spent the rest of the day either wandering the city or in the library.

Roland, Bryanna and Taronus studied books on the Blades, Star Castle and magical bloodlines. Heleth ([livejournal.com profile] venta) walked around the city, noticing the high prices and general air of gloom. Gref ([livejournal.com profile] bateleur) found that an increased number of spies were around. However, Tengath ([livejournal.com profile] chrestomancy) made the greatest of discoveries. He walked around the second walls looking out into the outer city ruins and began to suspect that this outer layer housed a hidden building. The more he focused his powers upon it, the more he was convinced that he had come upon a Mage's Tower - Irilika's Tower. Gref was then sent to investigate further - he determined that it was not so much invisible as completely removed from the normal world.

The evening was tense one. There was much discussion on the Royal blood and the ninth path (whereupon Finch reminded the party that Louise was also descended from the ancient line). Additionally, Bryanna persuaded the Duchess' generals to set fire to the outer city to drive away the enchanted beasts. The plans for the defense of Chir Shrine were being finalised as it was only a matter of time before Fulton's attack would become public knowledge.

That night, Bryanna was wakened by a visitor. Possibly for the last time. The spirit told her that Fire Tower had sunk and Teriaja would shortly follow. It explained that the land had been weakened by the frequent and lengthy wars across the borders and this was how the Lirrisorn had been able to attack it. It suggested that all efforts had to be diverted to repair the damage or all of Athory would be under water by mid-winter.

Come the morning, another message had arrived :

Duke Valentin and Duchess Sarabella
request the company of the Lathany ambassadors
by the end of the day

The party were not pleased at all.

The morning was spent locating and opening Irilika's Tower. It turned out that the key Leonides had bequeathed to Heleth fitted the hidden door and the entire party, plus six Blades, entered.

In the downstairs part of the tower was the party's most favourite room, a library. Upstairs was a huge map of Athory which Tengath soon had functioning properly - able to magnify any part of the Empire. The party admired and planned. Books were borrowed (on the Paths of Dance, Fortune and Family) and Blades were left to spy upon Valentin and Sarabella's army. It was possible that this new discovery might be enough to defend the city until Fulton arrived.

On their return from the tower, Taronus, Bryanna and Heleth travelled to the Inn also called Irilika's Tower. Tengath had confidently informed them that it was the headquarters of the Rogue Stones. They met a member of the group and Taronus explained to her about the sinking of the continent and asked for the Rogue Stones help in reversing the situation. She made no promises, but agreed to meet them the following evening once she had discussed the problem with others.

Perhaps the land might be saved after all ?
