bateleur is trying to train Ryan to feed himself without anyone holding his spoon or arm.

Ryan is trying to train bateleur to feed him without Ryan himself having to hold the spoon or participate beyond opening his mouth.

Any bets on who will win this one ?

I've argued with him before, he never gives up. Then again, the kid's got his blood, and the advantage of youth on his side.

Assume neither of them eats. I'm betting he's got more fat than the kid, and he'd succumb to starvation first.

If it came down to old age, though, I think the kid wins.

Couldn't you get one of those collars people put on doggies to stop them biting their stitches off? Ryan couldn't reach his mouth with his hand then. Of course, if he picked up the long-handled spoon , that would enable him to get the food into his hungry mouth....

Or you could just cave before the NSPCC read this post, and get him finger food.

There is no dinner: Seems a pretty good way to train Ryan. Put the dinner and spoon in front of him. Have a spoon of your own, and every minute, eat a spoonful. When it's gone, it's gone. He'll pretty soon get the idea that if he's not going to eat it properly, you will. Problem is:
1 You have to eat his food, which may or may not be fine.
2 If he is not fed, you get a grumpy hungry Ryan
3 It won't work: If it was that easy, raising kids would be a doddle.

The problem is that with the exception of the first spoonful or so, Ryan doesn't care about his food. (Same applies to dr_bob's comments above.)

It's simple: Beas like to eat food, Ryans like to Go !

Good grief, so the lack of reasonable selection criteria on homo sapiens has reached the point of a kid too dumb to realise what "hungry" means?

He'll regret it when he's older and reads Daddy's livejournal, that's the main thing.
