If I recall correctly, FFIV was originally a SNES game.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by the graphics. They are indeed 2D and pretty crude, but they do convey the FF feel quite well.
The gameplay itself is also of similar complexity to the later ones.
Have you tried any of I, II, IV or V (also out on PS1) yet?
