On Friday evening, [livejournal.com profile] condign came round for dinner. This meant that he was subject to the scrutiny of two curious twins ("didn't he have a beard last time, Mummy ?") whilst I cooked roast and quietly (or perhaps not so quietly) worried about the fact that [livejournal.com profile] bateleur (and hence some of the dinner ingredients) was late. This panicking meant that I missed a golden opportunity to photograph Beatrice sitting solemnly on [livejournal.com profile] condign's knee.

We discussed roleplaying games, house-sharing and whether salaries should be secret. We did not discuss the war. We drank red wine (which [livejournal.com profile] condign brought - [livejournal.com profile] bateleur took one look at the bottle and promptly chose it over the white in the fridge) and B52s. It was a very pleasant evening.

Saturday I finished formatting Mourn's Gift and we looked up nearby bookbinders to bind it. With luck it might be finished before the middle of April (about nine months after I first completed it).

Today, I finally kept my promise to add a fourth gallery of photographs to the twins webpages.

The New Twins Gallery

On a more depressing note, I still have the cold. And it seems to have put in roots.

Hmm, I wonder if I can get a 100 pixel square version of that picture of me and Ryan to use as an icon?

I'm certainly not above using a cute baby to improve my public opinion ratings.

They really are nice photos of a lot of people. The ones of Kate, Georgia and Matt struck me as particularly nice :).

Were they all captured by Dom, or was it both of you?

Then do we get to read it?

Please?

Sorry to hear the cold isn't doing the decent thing and beetling off. Scare it with really big vitamin C tablets?

I may have a go (although I'm no expert) - otherwise get Dom to do one this evening for you.

About half and half.

That's the idea. I'll be after comments and criticisms, primarily things I can apply to future books to make them more publishable.

I have some huge vitamin C tablets, but the cold just sniggers at them.

Am I correct in thinking that you haven't tried to get this one published? You never know, it might already be publishable...

Oh, and:

Oi! Dawn's Cold! No!

Stop sniggering, and go away!

Perhaps. I might wait 'till I've had a bit of feedback on the subject. I can personally pick a fair number of holes in the style and I am aware of how much easier the writing became as I went along. I had to re-write quite a bit of the start as it was.

Rhi suggested I sent it around on spec regardless of how good I thought it was (note : Rhi hasn't read it, this was a general comment). That's probably a good idea because, if nothing else, I'll start to get more of a feel for how publishers work.

...and even a bare glimpse of [livejournal.com profile] lathany's brunette head, which was blonde last time I saw it.

nice pictures all! Generally I am skeptical about facial hair, but Chris looks great, tell 'im I said so.

add me to the list of people who thinks you should send it round to a few publishers. at the very least you'll probably get some helpful comments. And it is a well-known scientific fact that no author can get published until the number of rejection slips in her desk drawer reaches a certain critical threshold... so the earlier you start collecting them, the better!
