I'm not sure I agree. Music evokes past times for me and some of them are happy and others are painful.

Totally with you on that. Music evokes strong responses in me.

The Christmas shops are particularly bad for that - for me, going Christmas shopping is like walking through a minefield laid with random emotional bombs.

I agree. In fact even without a nostalgic reaction music often makes me sad.
