Heroes episode 33 (episode 10 of season 2). Sadly, this is the episode that's brimful of stupid.

Summary: Bennet is revived by Mohinder whilst Bob presents the Bennet family with Bennet's ashes. Bob tells Elle to keep an eye on Claire. Bennet tells Mohinder that the Company were responsible for all the viruses and that Mohinder is wrong about them and Mohinder doesn't listen. Peter returns to future New York whilst his body remains in the present (as he did for the past in How To Stop An Exploding Man) and returns with a notice of the situation that he gives to Adam. Adam asks him about the virus and announces that a woman named Victoria is responsible and they must find her. Sylar makes Maya control her power by convincing her that her brother hates her to bring it out and forcing her to control it. He then convinces her to leave Alejandro, who has found the report of Sylar killing his mother. Alejandro then returns, attacks Sylar, but is killed by him. Hiro searches for traces of Takezo Kensai; he discovers that Takezo Kensai is now Adam Munroe and that Kaito signed the order to lock him up. Hiro returns to that moment in time and discovers that the virus is being sent to Odessa. Niki returns to New Orleans, but when Micah hears of the virus he wants to give her DL's medal... and discovers that his cousin took his things and was then robbed. Monica and Micah try to get them back from the thieves, but Monica is caught in the act. Mohinder tells Bob that he has found the cure to Niki's condition using Claire's blood, but that every last strain of the virus must be destroyed. Peter and Adam find Victoria and Peter goes in alone to convince her to help him. She lies to him, traces him back to Adam and then shoots them both. However, not realising Peter can regenerate he stops her before she takes Adam's head off. He then mind-reads her to find out that the virus is in Texas and then Adam shoots her dead as she attacks Peter again with a shotgun. Claire considers calling the Haitian to remove her memories of her father, but West tells her not to do it. When spreading the ashes, she sees Elle and, in a fury, resolves to publish everything about the Heroes and put the Company on the run. Sylar and Maya arrive at Mohinder's apartment and Sylar rings Mohinder to tell him they are there with Molly. Peter and Adam arrive at the Company where time stops and Hiro arrives. The episode ends with Peter and Hiro facing off against each other over Adam.

Naming the episode: This one is badly named as, whilst some truths do come out, there's still a lot of lying in it. I guess that may be the point.

Comments: Almost everyone gets to be stupid in this episode. Claire announces her intentions to Elle to destroy the Company. Hiro tries to attack Adam without explaining why in full to Peter (despite having time stopped and therefore an infinite opportunity to do so). Mohinder still believes in the Company, despite all the viruses it created. Maya chooses Sylar over Alejandro. Victoria assumes Peter shares Adam's goals, despite the fact that Adam lies about his former attempt to get the virus in front of Peter (ie. making it obvious he has lied to Peter). Peter has two big moments - firstly he believes that stopping the virus will save Caitlin (this is the episode where he first gets that idea) as [livejournal.com profile] ao_lai complained a week or so ago, and secondly, whilst Victoria isn't convincing (particularly on a rewatch), the point at which Hiro echoes her comment that Adam killed Kaito, he should have seriously reconsidered his allies. Oh, and Elle can't do subtle - although I guess that isn't a stupid. On the plus side, at least this episode gets things moving towards a close, and has a good ending.

Cast list absences: Very few for season two. Nathan and Matt. Also, only a brief appearance from Bennet.

Continuity issues raised: It feels like a lot, but actually it's mostly the stupid. Depends whether the time travel thing comes under continuity and, I think, it's not clear which model of time travel is being used here... so that might be unfair.

Paintings realised to date:
  • 1 - Kaito's death (Four Months Later...)
  • 2 - Claire on the steps (The Line)
  • 3 - Peter staring through the glass at the deaths from the virus (Out of Time)
  • 4 - Hiro and Takezo Kensei fighting (Out of Time)
  • 5 - Mohinder firing a gun (Cautionary Tales)
  • 6 - Bennet dead (Cautionary Tales)
Elle/Bob: Wow, so Bennet's death is all Elle's fault. How nice. Bob is never going to make Father of the Year.

Claire/West: Brief and not too bad. She tells him about the Haitian. Claire also recaps some of the earlier things she's been through.

Hiro/Ando/Kaito: More good stuff. Kaito comes out as one of the good guys of the original founders and the one prepared to lock up Adam. He mentions that Adam must have had help - I guess Maury, possibly, or Linderman. It's good to see Ando having something to do, even if it's just remembering Adam's name when they're going through the documents.

Mohinder: I still find his sudden and complete faith in the Company disturbing. He also comments how easy it was for a blunderer like himself to infiltrate it and therefore the strains of virus are not safe. He has a point.

Sylar/Twins: It's good to see them out of that bloody car. It's also good to see them finally reach New York - pity it took until the penultimate episode to do it. And farewell to Alejandro - a hero who had an ever worse time across the season than Isaac did in season one.

Peter/Adam: Shuddering my way past Peter's two stupids, it's interesting that he appears able to time travel without leaving the present. Can Hiro also do this? Or is it special to Peter?

Monica/Micah: Brief, but nice. Monica has had a very limited number of appearances, I'm hoping she gets a better deal in season three.
