Heroes episode 18.
Summary: Simone dies immediately, then Peter runs when Isaac takes another shot at him. Mr Bennett is asked about Claire's disappearance, but doesn't remember anything (which Matt confirms). He returns home to be briefed by Sandra who does remember. Peter turns up in Nathan's office to discover that Nathan is working with the FBI to catch Linderman. Nathan arranges to have the police rung about Simone and he sends Peter to Mohinder. Claire and the Haitian wait for the Haitian's mystery employer to suggest a destination, then Claire tricks the Haitian at the airport and escapes. Mr Bennett and the new Hero, Candice, show up at Isaac's in time to rescue him from the police through Candice producing an illusion of Simone alive. Mohinder drugs Sylar and reveals he knows who he is, then takes a spinal cord sample. Jessica continues to pretend to be Niki, but discovers Niki has left a photo of Nathan where DL can find it. Nathan arrives at Linderman's hotel to find a dejected Hiro who he helps to get in. Isaac goes back to the drugs to begin painting again after looking at his picture of Simone and Peter. Jessica shoots the two FBI agents, but becomes Niki when Nathan shows up. Nathan agrees to kill Linderman and Niki tells him to knock her out first. Claire turns up at Peter's flat to find Angela and the Haitian - Angela explains she is Claire's grandmother. Hiro takes the picture to the basement and tries to steal the sword. He is stopped by the curator, but then saved by Ando in a security uniform. Hiro then teleports them both to the future, after whoever has exploded. Sylar manages to regain some powers, switches off his drugs, then attacks Mohinder. Nathan goes to kill Linderman, but is offered a chance to reach the White House - which makes him change his mind. Mr Bennett returns home and speaks to Sandra again, only to discover she is now Candice; he is then captured by the Company. Finally, Peter arrives at Mohinder's apartment to find Mohinder stuck to the ceiling by Sylar.
Comments: Was there anyone out there who didn't cheer when Mohinder finally sussed Sylar? This is a big episodes of "finally". Mohinder finally identified Sylar, Hiro finally got the sword, the viewers finally met Linderman, the Company finally caught up with Mr Bennett, the Haitian's mystery employer is finally revealed and Claire finally met her grandmother and, consequently realised the link between Nathan and Peter that the audience has been long aware of. The twists and new elements are great too - Nathan and the FBI, Claire running from the Haitian, Ando saving Hiro and Sandra becoming Candice. Also, this is a great linked-thread episode which almost has to play out in the scene order set just because of the interactions - Nathan and Peter have to talk before he goes to Vegas, Mohinder has to unmask Sylar and then lose to him before Peter can show up, Mr Bennett has to deal with Isaac before being captured by the Company and so on.
Cast list absences: No Ted. Brief glimpses of DL, Micah and Matt.
Sandra/Mr Bennett: Loved Sandra in this episode - pity Candice got her. There was almost a new partnership between the Bennetts forming here.
Claire/Haitian/Angela: Angela is shown to have done precisely what she told Nathan not to do - look after Claire. But in a very manipulative, behind-the-scene manner. Claire went after Peter rather than trusting the Haitian; which was guessable once she made her move.
Mr Bennett: Well, the Company now know what he's been doing and he looks pretty stuffed.
Matt: The main point of interest in Matt's brief scene is that the Company doesn't seem big on keeping its promises.
Candice: Candice appears and is highly valued by the Company - she's making bets with Bennett's boss as though they were equals. This is the highest status we've yet seen assigned to a Hero.
Linderman: Maybe it's because he reminds me of The Man Inbetween from Z'ha'dum in Babylon 5; but I found Linderman disappointing. Interesting that he knows about Nathan, Peter and Claire though.
Hiro/Ando: Again, I cheered for Ando when he appeared at the end. Great to see Hiro get the sword as well. Also a lovely exchange between Nathan and Hiro - Nathan helps Hiro for no good reason other than, perhaps, Hiro's good opinion of him.
Mohinder/Sylar: Just how much did Mohinder's father tell Sylar about his family? Seems a lot for Sylar to know about Shanti. Pity Mohinder didn't start by killing Sylar; he left it too late. Mohinder starts this episode brilliantly by finally getting Sylar - pity he's lost control of him by the end. Good news though - Mohinder has finally got to the genetic code of the abilities and can produce his own list.
Niki/Jessica/DL/Micah: Great to see Niki regain control and, from the look on his face, it seems DL is starting to suss that something's wrong (even if Micah isn't). Nice scene with the FBI agents as well ("so long as he doesn't pick up any more Japanese tourists...").
Nathan: A good episode for Nathan, up to the point where he stops pointing the gun at Linderman. He helps Peter, helps Hiro and is shown to have been after Linderman for more than six months using the FBI. This was an excellent character turn-around for him, up until now he's looked much too selfish. Nathan is an excellent character - and it's episodes like this one that really answer why he's so good.
Isaac: I've said it before, but Isaac does really badly in this show. A dead girlfriend, an annoyed Company and then back to the drugs only to produce pictures of his own death. His life Just Sucks.
Peter: Fairly brief scenes, but enough to express his grief to Nathan (and here Nathan is more helpful than we've seen him before to his brother), demonstrate a good grasp on his invisibility (it wasn't that long ago that he was failing to hold onto it!) and then to turn up at Mohinder's apartment just in time to be attacked by Sylar (for the second time).
