Emily Marle died this morning, she was put to sleep by the vet.

Oh dear, I'm very sorry to hear that -- she was an excellent cat in all sorts of ways. I have very happy memories of how friendly and pleased to see me she used to be when I came over to East Avenue to feed her while you were away, at a time when I was catless myself.

I'll give our cats an extra big hug tonight in her memory.

Thanks - I've been thinking over all the time we had her and I liked reading this memory.

Oh, I'm so sorry. She was a good cat and will be long remembered.

My favorite Em memory is of her chewing on the telephone wires in the house in Oxford.

Fortunately she abandoned her expensive tastes some years down the line. Sadly it was after [livejournal.com profile] zandev's Dreamcast.

Oh, how sad. I'm so sorry.

I still remember her as a teeny kitten. Such a cute little ball of fluff.

How are the twins coping?

Thanks.

Ryan won't get it until she's not around for long enough; but I think he'll accept it.

Bea was upset and will probably be upset again - she loved the Ems. But, in some ways, she's a wise little sweetheart and she's talked about pretending how Ems is in the next room rather than completely gone.

That's terribly sad news - I'm so sorry. Ems was well-loved, and will be missed :-(

I recommend the picture book Goodnight Mog. Very sad, but good for children in these circumstances and with happy parts also.

Very sorry to hear that. She was a super cat, full of personality. All my love to you.

One of my work colleagues recommended it. Having read reviews, I'm not keen. The punchline of the book seems to be getting a new kitten in. Whether or not it's called a replacement in the text, I'm not big on that at all.

If we get another cat at some future point, it will be because we want and choose a cat; it won't be as Ems II - The Sticking Plaster. Also, having had Ems from a very early stage in our relationship, we want to have a period of time adjusting to life without a cat now.

Meg and I send our condolences. It's always hard when you lose a much-loved family member, and over time you both have made it clear how important a family member she was.

Condolances to you all. I think I met Emily once, and agree with everyone else who says she was a great cat.

Aw, so sorry to hear that, she was a unique character. I will sadly miss the Emily equivalent of Russian Roulette (biiig furry strokage either followed by intense purring or a sharp nip!).

(and just in case you do think book for the kids, I recommend taking a look at Badger's Parting Gifts - it's a very good book with nice illustrations about how when Badger dies, all his friends are sad, and then they remember all the good things he has shown them. It's a nice calming book that *doesn't* end with a replacement badger - I am thinking about getting one for when my two need that sort of thing. )
