Gamespot have posted a short pitched and ditched list of games that were considered and not made.

The first and last (of three) ideas are amusing for the obvious - that someone else ended up doing them and making big sales (plus the boss in the first one reminded me of tales of a certain games company a couple of my LJ-list once worked for). However, I was rather taken with the Hindenburg Myst/Flight Simulator one. I hope it does get made at some point. I understand that makers would be concerned about having a Nazi hero, but this is a ship, surely that's OK?

I guess he figured the Hindenburg was the only airship disaster anyone (American) would have heard of. But he could have easily changed it to the R101 or the USS Akron if he wanted to avoid the Nazi angle.

I've only heard of the Hindenburg. And even then, only just.

(Although that probably speaks volumes for my 20th century history knowledge)

The Hindenburg was much more of a media event than the others. "Oh, the humanity!"
